Abstract
A mould, particularly for the manufacture of elastomeric gloves by dipping, is formed in the area of the edge of the finished article b with a pair of cavities, a, a1 to enable means, such as c, to be inserted after curing in order to enable removal of the article from the mould. <IMAGE>
Description
SPECIFICATION
Improvements relating to moulds for dip moulding of elastomers
The present invention relates to moulds employed for the manufacture by dip moulding from elastomers, of articles such as gloves.
During manufacture, these moulds are dipped in a bath of elastomer and once the layer which it is desired to obtain-thicker or less thick, depending upon the destination of the article-has dried, covering the mould, the moulded article is removed from the mould.
In order to carry out manually or mechanically this removal from the mould, it must be possible to seize the free edge of the article under conditions of grip which are sufficient to enable a pull to be exerted on it, which enables its removal from the mould to be achieved.
In practice, this is a delicate operation necessitating seizing the film of elastomer, supported or not by a textile, in order to separate it from the mould with the aim either of introducing air or water so that under the effect of pressure the article is ejected from the mould, or of manually or mechanically seizing the film in order to strip the article from the mould by turning it inside out, which is the case for a flock-lined glove (a righthand mould produces a lefthand glove). These operations are difficult and in general necessitate manual intervention.
The present invention seeks a simple and effective solution to the problem of removal from the mould, in particular removal by turning inside out of the articles formed on the moulds.
According to the invention there is provided a mould for the moulding of articles from elastomers, characterised in that, in the zone of the article where the means intended for removing it from the mould are brought into play, the mould is formed with two cavities arranged symmetrically across the zone, the dimensions of which cavities, in particular the width and the depth, are such that after shrinkage of the matter forming the article they enable the introduction between the mould and the moulded article, of means for removal of the article from the mould.
An embodiment of the invention is described below, it being understood that it is a question solely of an example and that any other moulds, proportions and arrangements might be adopted without departing from the scope of the invention.
During the course of this description reference will be made to the attached drawing in which:
Figure 1 is an elevation of a mould in accordance with the invention;
Figure 2 is a view of the mould of Fig. 1, likewise in elevation but at 90 to the foregoing, partly sectioned along the lines ll/ll of Fig.
1; and
Figure 3 is a section along the lines Ill/Ill of
Fig. 1.
In the example described, the mould 1 is intended for the manufacture of gloves from elastomer. The mould is made of porcelain and is generally circular in cross-section. In the zone where, once the glove has been moulded it will be seized with a view to removing it from the mould by turning it inside out, the mould is formed with two cavities a, a, situated diametrically opposite one another and each cut into one of the faces of the mould. The cavities in the embodiment described and illustrated are oblong in shape.
The consequence of this arrangement is that the elastomer b from which the glove is formed is, after shrinking, stretched across the cavities a, al (see Fig. 2) the dimensions of which latter, in particular the width and the depth, are chosen so as to enable the introduction between the mould and the glove, directly and without any difficulty, of means, (whatever they may be, and an example of which is shown diagrammatically at c) for seizing the glove and dragging it with a view to its removal from the mould. Hence there is no longer any need to have recourse to means for preparing the glove in order to enable it to be gripped. This results in considerable economy both in material and time since even manual gripping of the glove may be effected conveniently and quickly.
The edges d of the cavities advantageously do not have sharp corners but are rounded so as to leave no trace on the resulting glove.
As to the cavities themselves, their dimensions are chosen as a function of the article to be manufactured and of the means employed for removing it from the mould.
In any case as has been remarked above, the invention is not restricted to moulds for manufacturing gloves and the said moulds may indeed have any destination and be of any shape and of any nature whatever such as of metal or plastics material.
1. A mould for the moulding of articles from elastomers, characterised in that, in the zone of the article where the means intended for removing it from the mould are brought into play, the mould is formed with two cavities arranged symmetrically across the zone, the dimensions of which cavities, in particular the width and the depth, are such that after shrinkage of the matter forming the article they enable the introduction between the mould and the moulded article, of means for removal of the article from the mould.
2. A mould as claimed in claim 1 wherein the mould is circular in cross-section and is further characterised in that the cavities are situated diametrically opposite one another
