An adjustable neck-tie having a removable tongue portion. <IMAGE>

Description

SPECIFICATION Neck-tie The present invention relates to a neck-tie.
In recent times, people have made increasing demands of clothing not only in respect of quality and fashionability, but also in respect of convenience and comfortability in wear of design. On formal occasions a neck-tie has become a necessary accessory. However, known neck-ties are typically made of a long strip offabricandhavea number of disadvantages.
1. To wear a neck-tie, the user places it around his neck butthe only part of a neck-tiewhich is seenis the front so thatthe part around the wearer's neck not only is awaste of material, but also is uncomfortable to the wearer; 2. Since the neck-tie has to be flexible toenable it to be worn around the neck and knotted, the materiai frornwhichthe neck-tie is manufactured is restricted to the softer ones such as cloth, silk, plush orflannel.
3. Someskill is needed to knot a neck-tie so that thosewho do not wear a neck-tie regularly often have difficulty producing a tail which istooshort ortoo long.
4. The size of the knot is dependent upon the material ofthe neck-tie and the modeoftying and, once knotted, the tie is difficultto adjust.
Qne object of the present invention is to provide a necktie which permits adjustmentofthe size ofthe frontface or flap includingthe length of the face or flap.
Afuther object of the invention isto provide a neck-tie in which the face or flap can be readily replaced to enable the tie colourto be matched to the wearer's clothing.
According to the present invention there is provided a neck-tie comprising a cravat-portion with a central gap to permitthe passage of a removable tongue therethrough; adjustable fastening means on either corner ofthe cravat, thefastening means having a row of buttons on a first strap and a row of press studs on a second strap such that both laps can beadjustably secured together, and a neck belt attached to either corner ofthe upper side ofthe cravat, one such belt provided with a button on the free end andthe other such belt provided with a press stud on the freeend which, whenfastened, serveto holdtheneck-tiein position around the neck of a wearer.
The invention will now be described further by way of example with referencetothe accompanying drawings in which: Figure 1 is an exploded perspective ofthe elements forming a neck-tie assembly is accordance with the embodiment of the invention; Figure 2 is a perspective view, partly in section of the downward direction. The cravat portion 1 is secured together by suitable fastening means provided at either side thereof. The fastening means includes a strap 12,13 onefitted with a row of buttons 1311,1312 and 1313 on the reverse side thereof and the other fitted with press studs 1211,1212 and 1213 symmetri- cally arranged with the buttons. An adjustable neck belt 14,15with a buton 141 and a press stud 151 respectively pass around thewearer's neck.
In one example ofthe invention, the depth of the cravat 1 is 4 cm, and the width at the upperside 2.1 times as large, at approximately 8.4 cm. The width on the lower side thereof is 1.4 times as large at about 5.6 cm. Each strap 12,13 pointsdownwardly at an angle ol minus 57 degrees and is of a length or of about 0.4 times thetop-to-base depth of the cravatatabout 1.6cm.
The underside ofthe straps is flat, and have a width corresponding to half the sametop-to-basewidth of the cravat, that is, approximately 2cm oF so, withthe outstanding side pointing down at an angle of minus 70 degres, to give the cravat a laterally symmetrical appearance.
Towearthe neck-tiethetongue2 is passed through the central gap 11 on the cravat portion 1 sothatthe portion ofthetongue above the gapll is availableto be benttowardsthe reverse side of the cravat t.
The cravatportion 1 is then deformed to enable the rowsof press studs 1213,1212and 1211, buttons 1S11 1312 and 1313to besecuredtogetherlnthis condition, a tough impressive and curved cravat is provided which is readyforwear.
The procedure for adjustment ofthe cravat 1 in relation to the collar of a shirt worn bythe user will now be described.
Step 1: the rows of buttons and press studs are coupled together to form a cravat having an appearance as shown in Figure 3; or Step 2: effecting coupling of press studs 1212,1211 with buttons 1311, to form a cravat 1 having an appearanceasshown in Figure4: or Step 3: coupling the press stud 1211 along to the button 1311 providesacravathavingtheappearance shown in Figure 5.
Once the length of the tongue 2 and the size of the cravat 1 have been adjusted the neck-tie is worn around the neck ofthe user by means of belts 14, 15.
1. A neck-tie comprising a cravat-portion with a central gap to permitthe passage of a removable tongue therethrough; adjustable fastening means on either corner of the cravat, the fastening means having a row of buttons onthefirst strap and a row of press studs on a secondstrap such that both laps can be ajustably secured together, and a neck belt attached tc either corner of the upper side of the cravat, one such belt provided with a button on the free end, which,
