Rotary transformers. -A dynamo-electric machine for transforming a high-voltage continuous current to a lower voltage for operating auxiliary equipment on electric railway cars, such as the air-compressors and the control and lighting equipment, comprises a number of motorgenerator sets in which all the motor and generator field windings are in series with the motor armatures across the high-voltage supply, the generator armatures being connected in parallel to low-voltage bus-bars. In the preferred form, two rotatable shafts 16, 17 within a housing 21 each have a motor armature 25 with commutator 26 coacting with a two-pole field, and a generator armature 27 with commutator 28 coacting with a four-pole field. The ends of the shafts may be adapted to drive mechanical loads. In addition to the series field windings 32, 35, the motors and generators have windings 31, 34 connected across the low-voltage bus-bars 12. Specification 12641/14 is referred to.
