Abstract

A table has two sections, a lower section 'A' with a height approximating to the easy chair or sofa with which twill be used. On this rests an upper section 'B' with the same size top as the lower section but with short legs allowing the movement of this upper section towards and then over the lap of the user and subsequent return to its position over the lower section. A third optional section 'C' comprising a table top only maybe used to form a removeable and alternative working surface either flat or held in a sloping position as an easel. <IMAGE>

Description

SPECIFICATION Retractabletable The invention comprises a two-tiered table.
The lower level (A) forms a static table on which a second moveabletabletop (B) is placed a few inches above the lowertable resting on four short legs. The table is designed for use when the user is sitting on a sofa or easy chair or similar article.
After positioning the table in front of the seated user the upper moveable table can be drawn towards him -the back legs sliding towards the near edge ofthe lowertable section while thefront legs are positioned on the sofa (or similar) one at each side of the user, the table top now being over his lap. In the same way the top section can be slid back overthe lower section to form the original two tiered table.
The purpose ofthe invention is to provide, amongst many uses:- (a) A 'television' supper table.
(b) A comfortably positioned working top close the user, obviating the necessityto reachforward orto sit at a chair at a high table.
(c) An invalids table.
(d) Achilds'desk'.
As an optional extra to the invention as described above a third table top, perhaps in the form of a tray, can be used as a removeabletop should the table be required for two activities or it can be raised into a sloping position intheform of an easel or book rest.

CLAIMS 1. A rectangular or square table comprising two sections, the upper section being seperate to the lower section but hooked to it by two hooks orangle pieces allowing movement in one direction but not complete removal. The movement of this uppersection brings it overthe lap of the user with the two rear legs remaining on the lower section andthetwo near legs on the chair either side of the user.
2. Atable as claimed in claim 1 with an extra section in the form of a removeabletabletop which can be held in a sloping position on top ofthe upper section.
3. Atable as claimed in claim 1 with an extra section in the form of a removeabletable top which can be used as a form of tray or an alternative and removeableworking surface.
4. Atable as in claim 1 but with rollers or ball bearings underthe legs of the top table to wh ich the angle pieces or hooks are attached.
5. Atable as in claim 1 where the legs of the lower section are adjustable in height.
