Abstract

The axle of wheel 5 is mounted in a bearing of sleeve 3 which is coupled to the frame member 6 of the bogie by rubber springs 2. Between the sleeve 3 and the element 8, which is attached to frame member 6 and contains the spring 2, a removable guiding body 1 is fitted. By varying the thickness of the body 1 and hence the longitudinal and/or transverse clearance, the response of the primary suspension in the horizontal plane is varied in frequency and amplitude, enabling the optimum conditions for smooth running to be achieved empirically. <IMAGE>

Description

SPECIFICATION Anti-wear guiding device for primary suspensions of railway bogies The present invention relates to an anti-wear guiding device for primary suspensions of railway bogies.
It is known that one of the most important problems in railway vehicles, is that of improving the running comfort to an extent as high as possible.
The method normally used to the purpose of achieving such a result is of carrying out a good maintenance of the track and of providing bogies with primary and secondary suspensions with suitable features.
Not withstanding the adoption of these measures of maintenance and design character, the running quality level, especially on the tracks of lower class, is not always satisfactory and, above all, it can be improved only seldom, although the suspensions are provided with intrinsic and/or additional systems and/or devices which are very complex. These devices or systems are however expensive, and not always reliable.
The purpose of the present invention is of providing an anti-wear guiding device for primary suspensions of railway bogies, which is of simple structure and which can be easily applied, and is directly installable between the track, which is the origin point of any perturbations, and the primary suspension of the bogie, so as to improve the running quality of the railway vehicle.
This purpose is achieved, according to the invention, by means of an anti-wear guiding device for primary suspensions of railway bogies with a supporting sleeve for each wheel, the sleeve being linked to the frame of the bogie through said primary suspension, characterized in that it comprises between said sleeve and a part solid with the frame of the bogie, at least a guiding body positioned in a removable way, so as to leave a longitudinal and transversal clearance between said sleeve and said part.
A device according to the invention increases, in the horizontal plane, the value of the attenuation coefficient and hence the value of the running quality in a very efficacious way, in that it acts directly at the level of the source of the troubles, in addition to acting on the more tiring accelerations for the passengers.
Together with this, a device according to the invention allows an optimum running quality to be achieved by means of suitable successive and easy optimizing modifications. These can be advantageously made on prototype bogies, it being not necessary to keep stopped the standard mass production, measuring the accelerations on the horizontal plane during test trips on the place, and hence in function of the real characteristics of the track.
The invention will be described hereinunder in more detail, on the basis of a preferred practical embodiment, which is shown in the drawing attached, which represents for exemplifying pur poses the portion of a railway bogie comprising the primary suspension, in correspondence of which the device is installed, which is the object of the invention. In particular, Figure 1 is an elevation view of said part, and Figure 2 shows a section along the line ll-ll of Figure 1.
The illustrated portion of the bogie is essentially formed by the spring 2, by the sleeve 3, by the bearings 4, by the wheel 5, by the side member of the frame 6.
The spring 2, shown in the drawing, is of known type, of rubber. It performs all required functions: the function of elastically suspending the vertical load, and that of elastically transmitting all the forces acting on the horizontal plane, between the sleeve 3 and the frame of the bogie 6.
The spring 2 of rubber may be of the cone frustum shaped type, housed and rotating within the metal housings 7 and 8, or of the cone frustum shaped ring type, cured onto the said metal parts.
The spring 2 may also be of another known type, not shown in the drawing, in which the function of suspending elastically the vertical load and the function of transmitting elastically the forces in the horizontal plane are separated. In this case, the vertical load is elastically suspended by means of a rubber spring of the single disc, or of the multiple disc type, or by means of a steel helical spring, whilst the forces acting in the horizontal plane are transmitted by a rubber ring freely rotating within a cylindrical surface metal seat.
In all these typical applications, it can be seen that the freedom degree of the primary suspension in the horizontal plane is controlled by the elastic characteristic in that plan of the rubber ring.
This characteristics, after that the design has been finished, cannot be suitably varied any longer, nor can it be adapted and optimized in the known bogies, as a function of the type of the track and of the type of the vehicle.
In order to obviate this drawback, the device is provided according to the invention, which is indicated in the drawing with 1.
Said device is formed by a guiding body 1, made of an anti-wear material with suitable resilience, and positioned in a detachable way between the sleeve 3 and the metal element 8 (containing the spring 2), solid with the side member 6 of the frame of the bogie. The guiding body 1 has vertical anti-wear surfaces on longitudinal and transversal planes in the contact area between the sleeve 3 and the element 8. It acts thus as a transversal and longitudinal guiding element between the sleeve 3 (and hence the wheel 5) and the part 8 (and hence the side member 6 of the frame of the bogie).
Advantageously, two bodies 1 are provided, positioned symmetrically on opposite sides of the axle of the wheel 5.
By suitably varying the thickness of the body or of the bodies 1, the value can be varied of the clearance between the sleeve 3 and the side member 6 of the bogie, in a longitudinal direction as well as in a transversal direction, equally or differently, and on the basis of the acceleration meas urements above mentioned.
The variation of the clearance produces a variation of the response, as for frequency as well as for amplitude, of the primary suspension in the horizontal plane. It is therefore possible to determine, during the tests on the field, the optimum value of the same clearance, for which, in the complex muiti-mass dynamic phenomenon being considered, in function of the irregularities of the track and of the running speeds of the vehicle, the minimum values are produced of the accelerations, and is consequently possible to install the device 1 of the most suitable measure for obtaining an optimum behaviour and running comfort of the vehicle along the whole path.
The body 1, which advantageously has its cross section of U shape, can be fixed on the sleeve 3, as it is shown in the drawing, or to the element 8 solid with the frame of the bogie.
As it can be understood from what described, the device according to the invention can be easily installed in any type of primary suspension, of existing type, or of new type, with springs made of steel and/or of rubber.
