Abstract

215,940. Aldam, E. H. Dec. 13, 1923. Stair rods and fastenings.-A stair rod is provided near each end with a longitudinal slot a<1> and a communicating vertical slot a<2> in the face adjacent the riser. The vertical slot is continued into an enlarged opening in the lower face a<3>. The heads of nails or screws, fixed to the riser of the stairs, pass through the enlarged openings and engage the edges of the longitudinal slot. In order to give a tightening action the longitudinal slot may have tapered edges or may be inclined. The rods are preferably of triangular section, and in the case of wooden rods a recess is cut to accommodate the screw or nail head and the longitudinal and vertical slots are formed in a brass strip at the back.
