Abstract

215,937. Weir, Ltd., G. &. J., and Weir, J. G. April 26, 1923. Two or more barrels in series; regulating delivery by varying speed of motor.-Boiler-feed apparatus comprises an electrically-driven constantspeed pump c in series with a variablespeed pump a, the latter being controlled by the pressure of discharge from the former or by the pressure in the pipe or vessel into which the pumps deliver. If the pump a is driven by a steam engine b, the steam supply valve f may be controlled by the pressure in the delivery pipe m transmitted through a pipe h. A feed-water heater may be arranged between the pumps a, c, and the exhaust steam from the engine b may be condensed in this feed-heater. The pump a may extract water of condensation from the condenser and in this case the valve f may have a by-pass to keep the pump a working for this purpose when the pressure in the pipe m is sufficient to close the valve f. The pump a may be electrically driven, and may be placed between the pump c and the boiler feed pipe n; it may also be in series with several constant speed pumps used in parallel.
