Abstract

A hair lotion for producing scalp tissue thickening accompanied by hair growth comprises an aqueous solution containing active ingredients in the form of heather and rosemary extracts in combination with vinegar and sugar. The heather extract is taken from the strain callunavulgaris.

Description

SPECIFICATION Hair Lotions This invention relates to hair lotions, and in particular to lotions having active ingredients which promote hair growth.
According to the present invention there is provided a hair lotion comprising an aqueous solution having as its active ingredients extracts of heather and rosemary in combination with vinegar and sugar.
Preferably the heather extract is obtained from freshly cut heather, in particular heather of the strain calluna-vulgaris which is to be found in abundance in Perthshire, Scotland. Preferably also the vinegar is cider vinegar and the sugar is white sugar. The white sugar may be derived from sugar cane.
Further according to the present invention there is provided a method of manufacturing a hair lotion as aforesaid, said method comprising adding heather and rosemary cuttings to a volume of water, heating the mixture to achieve boiling and maintaining the mixture at the boiling condition fo a period of time, cooling the boiled mixture to a temperature slightly above ambient, adding a quantity of sugar to the mixture, agitating the mixture to dissolve the sugar therein, adding vinegar to the mixture and agitating the mixture to disperse the vinegar therein and strain the resultant mixture to remove particulates.
Preferably the volume of water is one gallon, the quantity of heather is 8 ounces, the quantity of rosemary is 0.5 ounces, the quantity of sugar is 2 ounces and the quantity of vinegar is 2 ounces.
The hair lotion as above described has been administered to selected test subjects by application of the lotion to the scalp of the subjects and has resulted in a visually appreciable increase in both hair growth and texture. Administration is preferably by way of applying a thin film of the lotion to the scalp with simultaneous light massage for a short period of time, e.g. 1 minute. Sequential applications may by undertaken at intervals of about 1 month but test results demonstrate that only one or two applications produces the desired results. In the case of patients suffering from alopecia the lotion has produced scalp tissue thickening accompanied by hair growth.
1. A hair lotion comprises an aqueous solution having as its active ingredients extracts of heather and rosemary in combination with vinegar and sugar.
2. A lotion as claimed in claim 1 wherein the heather extract is obtained from freshly cut heather.
3. A lotion as claimed in claim 2 wherein the heather is of the calluna-vulgaris strain.
4. A lotion as claimed in any preceding claim, wherein the vinegar is cider vinegar and the sugar is white sugar.
5. A method of manufacturing a hair lotion as claimed in claim 1 comprises adding cuttings of heather and rosemary to a volume of water, heating the mixture to achieve boiling and maintaining the mixture at the boiling condition for a period of time, cooling the boiled mixture to a temperature slightly above ambient, adding a quantity of sugar to the mixture, agitating the mixture to dissolve the sugar therein, adding vinegar to the mixture and agitating the mixture to disperse the vinegar therein, and straining the resultant mixture to remove particulates.
6. A method as claimed in claim 5, wherein said volume of water is one gallon, the quantity of heather is 8 ounces, the quantity of rosemary is 0.5 ounces, the quantity of sugar is 2 ounces and the quantity of vinegar is 2 ounces.
