Abstract

A waterproof, protective cover for luggage is carried on existing roof racks to protect luggage from inclement weather and with a built in wind break is vibration free and cuts wind drag down to a minimum. It can be removed in seconds and folded flat for ease of storage in garage or car boot. <IMAGE>

Description

SPECIFICATION Protective cover for roof rack luggage This invention relatesto a collapsible protective coverfor roof rack luggage.
Nearly all the luggage carried on roof racks today is protected only by flimsy polythene and plastic bags, which during travelling gets torn to shreds by wind friction thus exposing the luggage to wind and rain, subsequently the luggage arrives at its destination soaked. There is no collapsible protective cover available at present.
According to the present invention, there is provided an envelopeshaped cover which attaches to existing roof racks by means offour straps and buckles on each base corner. Zips at both sides enable luggage to be stored and secured from the elements.
A specific embodiment of the invention will now be described by way of example with reference to the accompanying drawing in which: Figure 1 Shows in perspective the cover in position on a typical roof rack.
Figure 2 Shows cover laid down flat for pattern.
Referring to the drawing the cover is a one piece 'envelope' which sits on to the existing roof rack.
The envelope body as shown in Figure 1,is placed onto the roof rack and secured at its base by means offour straps and buckles situated at each corner of the base 2, to the existing roof rack 3. Luggage place inside the cover rests on the base and the roof back and is sealed in by means of zip fasteners at both sides, 4. A wind break consisting of two pieces of perspex or similar hard plastic is built in to the cover 5. Strips of Veloro fastenings 6, 7, 8, 9 and covering the zips 10 give complete protection, as shown in Figure 2.
To remove is simple. Undo zips and straps and lift off roof rack. ltfolds into a compact shape for storage in ca strunk or garage.
1. A Collapsible one piece envelope shaped cover which is constructed of heavy duty waterproof vinyl, secured to an existing roof rack by means of a strap and buckle at each base corner. Cover is completely removable.
2. A removable protective cover as claimed in claim 1. Whereas control of cover is by means of straps and buckles at base corners.
3. A removable protective cover as claimed in claim 1, and claim 2, wherein luggage may be protected from inclement weather by means of zips at both sides of cover.
4. A removable protective cover as claimed in claim 1, or claim 2, or claim 3. wherein a built in windbreak deflects air stream whilst vehicle is in motion.
5. A removable protective cover as claimed in claim 1, where the weight of luggage resting on base and roof rack gives stability and with claim 4, gives stabilitywhilstvehicle is in motion.
6. A removable protective cover substantially as described herein with reference to Figures 1 - 2 of the accompanying drawing.

Nearly all the luggage carried on roof racks today is protected only by flimsy polythene and plastic bags, which during travelling gets torn to shreds by wind friction thus exposing the luggage to wind and rain, subsequently the luggage arrives at its destination soaked. There is no collapsible protective cover available at present. According to the present invention, there is provided an envelopeshaped cover which attaches to existing roof racks by means offour straps and buckles on each base corner. 5. A removable protective cover as claimed in claim 1, where the weight of luggage resting on base and roof rack gives stability and with claim 4, gives stabilitywhilstvehicle is in motion.
6. A removable protective cover substantially as described herein with reference to Figures 1 - 2 of the accompanying drawing.
