Description

SPECIFICATION Protective cover for baby carried in a baby carrier The present invention relates to a protective cover for babies, used mainly for protecting a baby carried in a baby carrier of the sling type.
The use of such baby carriers has consider abiy developed in recent years, the baby being carried either on the back or against the chest.
However, up to the present time, they have not been able to offer effective, suitable protection when climatic conditions vary, for example when leaving a relatively high inside temperature to face a relatively low outside temperature, rain, etc...
It is an object of the present invention to provide a cover of particularly simple design which can be quickly and easily positioned to give a baby in a baby carrier optimal protection.
To this end, this cover for protecting babies, mainly used for protecting a baby in a baby carrier, is characterised in that it comprises an envelope made of supple, impermeable material, forming a shell to protect the baby's body, this envelope being extended by a hood covering its head and, on the edge of the envelope, tapes are provided for attaching the cover to the baby carrier or to the person carrying the baby.
The cover according to the invention offers the advantage that the tapes for attachment to the baby carrier or to the person carrying the baby may be tied and untied very easily, hence this cover is simple to position and remove. Furthermore, due to its particular shape, the cover ensures perfect protection of all the baby's body and head.
The invention will be more readily understood on reading the following description with reference to the accompanying drawings, in which: Figure 1 is a perspective view of a protective cover for baby according to the invention.
Figure 2 is a perspective view of a protective cover placed on a baby carrier against the chest.
Figure 3 is a rear view of the protective cover applied on the baby in its baby carrier.
Referring now to the drawings, the protective cover comprises an envelope 1 made of supple, impermeable material, forming a shell for protecting the baby's body. This envelope 1 has an edge 2 constituted by a hem in which is housed a drawstring 3 or elastic.
This string enables the envelope 1 to be more or less tightly drawn so that it is adapted to the baby's size.
The envelope 1 is extended by a hood 4 adapted to protect the baby's head. This hood 4 is connected elastically to the envelope 1 at neck level so as to be adaptable to any supple baby-carrier, this zone of connection being designated by reference 10 in the drawings.
The protective cover according to the invention also comprises two tapes 5 attached to the edge 2 on each side of the hood 4 and two other tapes 6 attached to the edge 2 at two opposite points between the hood 4 and the opposite end of the envelope 1. These tapes 5 and 6 are used for attaching the protective cover and they each comprise one or two relatively short strands.
As shown in Fig. 2, the cover according to the invention offers effective protection for a baby from inclement weather when the baby is being carried in a baby-carrier 7 which, in this particular case, is a ventral baby carrier.
This baby carrier comprises upper straps 8 and lower straps 9 which pass around the shoulders of the person carrying the baby.
The two tapes 5, near the hood 4, are used to attach the protective cover to the upper straps 8, by knotting said tapes 5 around these straps, whilst tapes 6, located lower than the tapes 5, attach the cover to the lower straps 9 by knotting their two strands around said straps.
It is seen from the foregoing that it is a simple matter to position the protective cover since it suffices to cover the baby carried in the baby carrier with the protective cover, then to attach the cover to the straps 8 and 9 by tying the tapes 5 and 6.
According to a variant embodiment, the cover may comprise tapes such as 5 and 6 of greater length, which may be tied around the neck and shoulders of the person carrying the baby. However, this solution is obviously not as convenient as attaching the tapes to the straps 8 and 9 of the baby carrier.
The protective cover according to the invention may be used independently of the baby carrier, for transporting the baby whilst protecting it from the cold and rain. This cover may be provided with closure means such as a zip fastener or a fastener of the "touch and close" type, so that the cover can be closed when used in this way.
