Abstract

The invention relates to a device for hingedly interconnecting two sectional elements (1,2), e.g. for windows or doors. Each sectional element (1,2) has a channel (3) extending along the entire sectional element and having an opening over its entire length. Two elongated connecting members (5), interconnected by means of a rigid web (6) are insertable each in one channel (3) via the opening of said channel. At least one longitudinally slit sleeve (7) for each connecting member (5) is adapted, after insertion of each connecting member in its respective channel, to be pushed over the connecting member to non-rotatably engage and retain said connecting member in said channel. The cross-sectional shape of the channel (3) and/or the outer cross- sectional shape of the sleeve (7) is circular. <IMAGE>

Description

SPECIFICATION Device for hingedly interconnecting two sectional elements The present invention relates to a device for hingedly interconnecting two sectional elements, e.g.
for windows or doors.
The device according to the invention comprises a channel in each sectional element, said channel extending along the entire sectional element and having over its entire length an opening, two elongated connecting members insertable each in one channel at the opening thereof and interconnected by means of a rigid web, and at least one longitudinally slit sleeve for each connecting member.
The device is characterised in that, after insertion of each connecting member in its respective channel, each sleeve is adapted to be pushed overthe connecting memberfrom the end thereofto nonrotatably engage and retain said connecting member; and that each sleeve and the corresponding channel with its opening have such a cross-sectional shape that the sleeve, when pushed over its connecting member, is surrounded in such a mannerbythechannelwallthat it cannot by removed from said channel via the opening thereof, the cross-sectional shape of said channel and/orthe outer cross-sectional shape of said sleeve being circular.
The invention will be described in detail below, reference being made to the accompanying drawings, in which Figs. 1-3 are cross-sectional views and show two hingedly interconnected sectional elements in diffe rent positions relative to each other.
Figs. 1-3 show a first sectional element 1, here in the form of a movable window casement, and a substantially equaily long second sectional element 2, here in theform ofastationarywindowframe. These two sectional elements 1 and 2 are preferably made of aluminum or plastic material. Each sectional element 1,2 is provided at one corner with a channel 3, extending along the entire sectional element. Said channel 3 has a partly circular cross-sectional shape and forms an opening, the width of which is smaller than the diameter of the partly circular cross-section of the channel 3.
The sectional elements 1 and 2 are interconnected by means of a coupling member4which has substantially the same length as the sectional elements 1 and 2 and is preferably made of aluminum or plastic material. The coupling member4 has two elongated connecting members 5 each adapted for insertion in a channel 3. Said connecting members have a circular cross-sectional shape, the diameter of which is smaller than the width of the opening of the channel 3. The two connecting members 5 are interconnected by means of a rigid web 6. The coupling member 4 has, for each connecting member 5, at least one longitudinally slit sleeve 7 which is preferably made of aluminum or plstic material. Each sleeve 7 has a circularly cylindrical shape and an inner diameterwhich is equal to the outer diameter of the connecting memberS, the outer diameter of said sleeve being equal to the diameter of the partly circularcross-sectionofthe channel 3. Each sleeve 7 is adapted to be pushed over the corresponding connecting member 5from the end of the respective sectional element 1,2, when the connecting member5 has been inserted in its channel 3, for nonrotatably engaging and retaining the connecting member in its channel 3.
The number of sleeves 7 for each connecting member 5 may be selected as required. The length of the sleeves 7 is optional, and the space required for assembly and disassembly of the hinge connection at one or both ends of the sectional elements 1 and 2 is adjustable, since it corresponds to the length of the longest sleeve.
Fig. 2 shows the sectional element 1 rotated through 90 about the coupling member 4, and Fig. 3 shows the sectional element 1 together with the coupling member 4 rotated through a further 90 relative to the sectional element 2.
1. A device for hingedly interconnecting two sectional elements, e.g. for windows or doors, comprising a channel in each sectional element, said channel extending along the entire sectional element and having an opening over its entire length, two eiongated connecting members insertable each in one channel at the opening thereof and interconnected by means of a rigid web, and at least one longitudinally slit sleeve for each connecting member, characterised in that, after insertion of each connecting member in its respective channel, each sleeve is adapted to be pushed overthe connecting memberfrom the end thereofto nonrotatablyengage and retain said connecting member; and that each sleeve and the corresponding channel with its opening have such a cross-sectional shape thatthe sleeve, when pushed over its connecting member, is surrounded in such a manner by the channel wall that it cannot be removed from said channel via the opening thereof, the cross-sectional shape of said channel and/orthe outer cross-sectional shape of said sleeve being circular.
2. A device as claimed in claim 1, characterisea in that the outer cross-sectional shape of the connecting members is circular.
3. Adeviceasclaimed inanyofclaims 1 and 2, characterised in that the connecting members are parallel to each other.
4. A device for hingedly interconnecting two sectional elements, substantially as hereinbefore described with reference to the accompanying drawing.
