Abstract

1,252,809. Flexible hinge. C. E. SHEPHERD. 7 Feb., 1969, No. 6771/69. Heading E2F. A hinge comprises a pair of metallic e.g. aluminium leaf sections 16, 18 and a flexible connecting section 20 of plastics material e.g. polyethylenepolypropylene copolymer. Each leaf section is required to have a portion 22 for mounting on a part 12 or 14, to be hinged, and a generally C-shaped retainer portion 24 integral with the portion 22. The flexible section 20 is required to have two generally cylindrical portions 28, 30 and a longitudinal groove 34 which constitutes the hinge axis. Instead of being flat the portion 22 may be channel shaped. The flexible section 20 is retained in the leaf sections 16, 18 by crimping, staking or adhesive. When the hinge has moved through 120‹ relative to the position shown, the metallic retainer portions 24 abut to prevent over-stressing the flexible section 20.
