Abstract

Pneumatic-tyre pressure gauges.-In a gauge of the type in which a linear movement due to the pressure is converted into a rotary movement of the indicating member by a screw and nut mechanism, the fluid pressure is caused to act on a spring-loaded piston slidably mounted in a casing. In the arrangement shown in Fig. 1 the piston 7 of the gauge has multiple internal screw threads 8 engaging threads on the spindle 9 of the indicator. The spindle 9 may carry a disc or finger, and rotates in a ball bearing 11. Movement of the piston is opposed by a spring 6 anchored at 5 to a block 3 which has, a groove 4 permitting fluid to pass to the piston-space. In a modification, Fig. 3, the piston 7 is supported on a bag 29 of rubber or other suitable material, and the opposing spring 6<a> is arranged above the piston. Fig. 4 shows. a modified form of the base 2 of the gauge in which a pin 23 is provided for opening the valve of the pneumatic tyre when the gauge is applied to it, and a valve-head 27 on the pin serves to retain the pressure in the gauge when it is withdrawn from the tyre.
