Description
SPECIFICATION
Device for condensing the vapour escaping from a vent opening of dish washers
The invention relates to a device for condensing the vapour escaping from a vent opening of a tub of domestic dish washers comprising a flat hollow body which can be secured to the side wall of the tub and establishes an air connection between the vent opening and the surrounding air space.
The air connections for compensating overand subatmospheric pressures in domestic dish washers have to be constructed so that they do not allow spraying water to leave the tub during operation. Moreover, the escape of vapour should be avoided to the greatest possible extent. A known construction utilizes a flat hollow body, which, arranged in the interstice between the tub and the outer casing of the dish washer, not only establishes the required air connection, but at the same time also comprises venting means for the water supply and in part also a dispenser of a softening equipment for the quantity of water required for regeneration. Such hollow bodies can be simply made of synthetic material by injection-moulding or blowing.
The invention has for its object to improve a device of the kind described so that the escape of vapour from the tub through this vent opening is further reduced. According to the invention, this object is achieved in that the hollow body has in part such a double-walled construction that an air shaft is obtained which engages in a flat plane the air connection and is in the form of a chimney. The air passing along these shafts cools the engaging surfaces so that they act as condenser surfaces. The air shafts can be arranged so that the air passage is independent of the air connection between the tub and the surrounding air space.
An advantageous embodiment is obtained in that the air outlet opening and the air shaft in the hollow body are each of multipartite construction such that the air outlet connections each engage air shafts. Because the formation of shafts in a hollow body is rather complicated, in a further embodiment of the invention, the air shafts can be made of a planar element, which is then placed with projecting ribs in sandwich construction on the flat hollow body constituting the air outlet connection in a manner such that numerous air shafts are obtained beside each other.
The invention will be described and the operation will be explained with reference to diagrammatic drawings.
Figure 1 shows a device according to the invention with water conduits shown diagrammatically.
Figure 2 shows a device with air shafts formed in it, and
Figure 3 shows a device with air shafts arranged on it.
Figure 1 shows a flat hollow body, which establishes through the vent opening 1 connected to the tub and an outlet opening 2 the required air connection between a tub and the surrounding air.
For this purpose, this hollow body can be secured to the side wall of the tub. It is covered by the outer casing of the dish washer. The outlet opening 2 correspondingly merges between the tub and the outer casing of the dish washers. On the hollow body are formed a water inlet tube 3 and an outlet tube 4. The connection formed in the hollow body between the tubes 3 and 4 consists of a loopshaped water conduit 5 having a free air path 6 and the duct 7. There is formed in the duct 7 at the upper end a bore 8, which permits an overflow of a part of the supplied water into the reservoir 10 constituted by the intermediate wall 9. The upper water level is designated by reference numeral 11. The reservoir 10 has an outlet tube 12, which establishes through a valve or the like the connection with the salt dispenser of a water softening device.Further there is formed in the hollow body a separation wall 13, which constitutes an air shaft 14 between the opening 15 and the opening 16. This air shaft 14 is in the form of a chimney so that due to the larger heat in the space between the openings 1 and 2, a steady air current is obtained between the openings 15 and 16. This air current cools the intermediate wall 13 so that the latter constitutes internally a condenser surface. The condensate flowing out can be returned through the opening 1 to the tub.
The water conduit 5 can be prolonged in the space between the openings 1 and 2 and be arranged so that its outer surfaces, which are substantially enlarged, constitute at least during the time of a flow of water additional condenser surfaces.
Figures 2 and 3 show in diagrammatic representation further embodiments, in which, however, the water conduits usually formed therein as well as the relevant inlet and outlet openings and the like are omitted.
In a device of the kind shown in Figure 2, rod-shaped air shafts 21 are formed in the hollow body. The rod-shaped air shafts 21 can project, as shown in Figure 2, with their surfaces 22 into the hollow body, but they may also fill up the whole depth of the hollow body. The air currents through the openings 23 and 24 cool the chimneylike air shafts 21 so that their surfaces 22 facing the inner side of the hollow body act as condenser surfaces.
Figure 3 shows an embodiment, in which a surface 31 is provided on a hollow body, having a small constructional depth, in the form of a sandwich structure with the partition walls 32. These walls 32 constitute individual chimney-like air shafts 33. The surface 31 of the hollow body, engaging the partition walls 32, is cooled by means of the flow of air in the air shafts 33. This surface 31 of the hollow body thus acts as a condenser surface.
Of course, the embodiments shown in Figure 2 and 3 as well as correspondingly combined embodiments having corresponding water conduits, which may constitute additional condenser surfaces, may be combined.
