Abstract
215,123. Chantry, J. Feb. 10, 1923. Block apparatus; cutting-edges, shaping and treating; steels; guides and rests.-Comprises a steel or other sharpening-member, for example a file or a carborundum stick e pivotally mounted at one end on a base a and adapted to be oscillated m contact with the edge of a knife, razor, &c. so disposed in a groove in the base as to present the edge at the correct angle to the sharpening- member. The steel is pivoted, so that its height is adjustable to suit the width of the blade, on a pin k, a spring f being disposed between the steel and a bracket g. Two grooves b, c may be provided in the base ; the grooves may be formed to take blades of two widths. The upper face of the base may be cut away midway of its length, grooved supports being provided for the blade. The grooves may be of square, dovetail or other cross-section, and several grooves may be. provided to allow of several blades being sharpened simultaneously. The section of the grooves may be such as to form a receptacle for metal particles ; or secondary grooves may be provided for this purpose communicating with a tray in the base. The pivot may be formed to. receive an ordinary steel, or may be in the form of a universal swivel. According to the Provisional Specification, the sharpening-medium may be carried in a holder pivoted on the base.
