Stropping-apparatus; burnishing by compression.-In the production of a cutting-edge on a razor, surgical instrument, &c., the ground portions C of the blade are first honed at the grinding angle and then at the extreme edge are honed at an angle to produce a more obtuse angled edge at D with convex sides E. The blade K is mounted in a holder J and is honed by rotating hones G, the holder being moved along and oscillated about a guide H. The extreme edge is then honed on hones L mounted on the spindles of the hones G, the hones L being of smaller diameter than the hones G. By increasing the pressure to bend the blades when in contact with the hones L, the faces E are produced with convex surfaces.
