Letter-spacing mechanism; space-key actions.-In escapement mechanism of the kind comprising a reciprocating bar provided with fast and rocking dogs co-operating with an escapement wheel, the rocking dog is of L or like shape and lies in a groove in the bar, the end of the dog engaging a stationary spring. A cylindrical bar a, supported in bearings b, is formed with a gap c for the escapement wheel d, and is provided with a fast dog h, and an L-shaped loose dog i which lies in a groove k, the end i' of the dog engaging a stationary spring l. The escapement wheel is secured to a shaft e depending from the feedpinion g. The bar a may be attached to a curved universal-bar q arranged in the path of lugs s<1> on type-levers s. The space-key lever may be connected to a lever o which engage the bar a, and is connected to a returning-spring.
