Abstract

A book for use in fund-raising for charities comprises a plurality of sections, each section comprising a specification of a task to be performed under sponsorships, and ledger spaces wherein the names of the various individual sponsors can be set out, with the amounts to be paid per unit of the respective task performed, the extent of the task performed etc. The book may additionally comprise portions of narrative or informative literature designed to have appeal in their own right and which may have a relation to the tasks performed and portions bearing tear lines, printed guidelines, lines of weakening etc., allowing said portions to be formed into three dimensional structures.

Description

SPECIFICATION Book for charitable fund-raising and the like This invention relates to a book for use in fund-raising for charities and the like, and, more particularly, for use in fund-raising of the type in which the fund-raiser seeks socalled sponsorship for tasks to be performed by him, for example seeks donations at a rate per unit distance, which rate is specified by the sponsor, for an impressively long walk to be made by the fund-raiser. According to an invention, there is provided a book for use in fund-raising for charities and the like, the book comprising a plurality of sections, each specifying a particular task to be performed under sponsorship, the book incorporating ledger or the like portions for the recordal of information pertaining to the performance of said tasks, the sponsorship thereof, monies due or received, or the like.

The book may, for example, specify a total of ten tasks to be performed under sponsorship.

The book may simply comprise a specification, in each section of the respective task to be performed, together with appropriate ledger spaces or the like wherein can conveniently be set out the names of the various individual sponsors, the amounts the sponsors agree to donate per unit of the respective task performed, the extent of the task actually performed, and wherein can be entered appropriate certification as to the task performed, respective total sums of money to be donated by each sponsor signatures, of the various sponsors etc.

However, the book may additionally comprise portions of a narrative, literary or informative nature, designed to have appeal in their own right, and the various tasks specified may be related to respective features of the narrative, literary or informative portions of the book. Thus, for example, the book may comprise a story comprising a number of chapters, with each said section of the book incorporating a respective chapter and, for example, at the end of the chapter, the specification of the task to be performed, together with the respective ledger sections etc.

The tasks specified at the end of each chapter may be appropriate to the narrative, for example, if the particular chapter describes a hero of a story making a iong journey by foot, the respective task may comprise a walk of imposing length, or if the respective chapter describes an incident in which the hero has to swim, the respective task specified might be one involving swimming, and so on.

As another example, the book might be an informative book relating to a particular topic, for example motor cars, with the tasks specified being related to various aspects of that particular topic. For example, the fund-raiser might be required to obtain, in respect of as many individual makes/models of motor car as possible, endorsement by the respective owner.

In an alternative arrangement, the narrative section or the like might form the first half of the book with the second half relating to the tasks to be performed. Alternatively, for example, the upper proportion of each page might contain the narrative, literary or informative material and the lower portion thereof might be devoted to the task to be performed and the recordal thereof. In either event, if desired, the book may be arranged to allow easy separation of the material in relation to the recordal of the tasks performed from the narrative, informative or the like portions.

The book may have one or more portions bearing tear lines, printed guidelines, substantially cut-out or stamped-out sections connected with the remainder by readily rupturable portions, or the like, to enable various articles or structures to be constructed, or assembled, preferably of a nature connected with the purpose ar theme of the book. For example the book may incorporate a tearaway pre-printed form and envelope by which the person undertaking the sponsored tasks or the like may record tasks performed, monies collected etc. and in which these may be dispatched to the charity concerned.Alternatively one or more portions of the book may be pre-printed, pre-perforated, etc. in such a way as to allow a portion or portions thereof to be separated from the remainder and assembled or folded to form some other kind of container, such as a carrier bag or a collection box for use in collecting money for the charity concerned. If desired the assembly of such a container, such as an envelope, bag or box may take the form of a puzzle, so that the person using the book must use substantial intelligence or ingenuity in order to form the required container from the part or parts provided.

The book may incorporate a part or parts to be separated from the remainder and used to construct a box or other container to be used in performing one or more of the sponsored tasks. Thus, for example, the book may list ten tasks each requiring the use of the box or other container constructed. The book may, of course, incorporate any other feature or combination of features designed to serve a practical or mechanical purpose as well as serving to convey information.

It is envisaged that, in fund-raising, for example, for a particular charity, using a book embodying the invention, the charity concerned will supply the book, either free of charge or at a suitable price, to potential fundraisers who will complete the tasks specified, collect the donations secured appropriately and return these to the charity concerned.

Claims

1. A book for use in fund-raising for charities and the like, the book comprising a plurality of sections, each specifying a particular task to be performed under sponsorship, the book incorporating ledger or the like portions for the recordal of information pertaining to the performance of said tasks, the sponsorship thereof, monies due or received, or the like.

2. A book according to claim 1 wherein each said section includes a narrative or a portion of a narrative, or material of a literary or informative nature.

3. A book according to claim 2 wherein the task specified in each said section is of a nature related to the narrative, narrative portion or literary or informative material incorporated in that section.

4. A book according to any preceding claim incorporating one or more portions bearing tear lines, printed guidelines, lines of weakening, or the like, serving a mechanical or practical purpose in allowing the respective portions to be formed into a structure such as a container.

5. A book according to clam 4 wherein the respective portions include a tear-off, preprinted envelope.

6. A book according to claim 4 wherein the respective portion or portions are adapted to be assembled to form a collecting box.

7. A book according to claim 4 wherein the respective portion or portions is or are in the form of a nozzle requiring the exercise of intelligence or ingenuity for the assembly of the respective container.

8. A book substantially as hereinbefore described.

9. Any novel feature or combination of features described herein.
