Abstract

214,821. Layton, S. T. April 16, 1923. Building-blocks.-A toy building-block having right-angled corners has on one or both faces a number of equispaced grooves which intersect at right angles, the distance from centre to centre of the grooves being equal to twice, the distance from the outermost groove to the nearest parallel edge of the block. A strip of fibre or other suitable material adapted to be cut to any desired length is inserted within the grooves to connect a number of the blocks, the strip making a friction-tight fit with the walls of the grooves. Additional grooves may be formed in the sides of the block, and equispaced holes may also be formed into which bolts may be inserted to fasten theblocks together. The blocks may be of rectangular, cubical, cylindrical, or disc-shaped form, and hinges, clips, bolts, tongues, and shafts may be provided to assist in the construction of complete models. Fig. 26 shows two rectangular blocks, provided with grooves 1 and holes 2 spaced as stated above, connected together by a hinge 22.
