Abstract

A clip of plastics material for application to nappies or diapers when worn by babies. The clip is substantially U-shaped and is provided with a single central longitudinal ridge 6 on the inner side of one leg of the "U" and a pair of complementary longitudinal ridges 4,5 on the inner side of the other leg of the "U". One or more of the ridges may be provided with teeth, serrations or bevels. <IMAGE>

Description

SPECIFICATION Nappy clip This invention relates to a clip or clasp for holding nappies (diapers) in position on babies, and for similar uses.
Nappies are presently held in position by safety pins. However, safety pins are difficult to use and are easily stuck into the baby or applying fingers especially when the baby wriggles. The nappy clip of the invention overcomes all these disadvantages by providing a slide on clip which is easily attached to the nappy.
The nappy clip of the invention comprises a Ushaped body section having two arms wherein each arm has means to retain the nappy material between the arms.
Preferably the means to retain the nappy material comprises one or more ridges extending longitudinally on each interior surface of each arm.
Most preferably one arm has a centrally located ridge, while the other arm has two ridges located at or adjacent either side of the arm. In this most preferred embodiment the nappy material is held by friction, clamped between the two arms by the resilience of the U-shaped body section.
By way of example only, one preferred embodiment of the invention will now be described with reference to the accompanying drawings in which: Figure 1 is a perspective view of a nappy (diaper) clip; Figure 2 is a side view; Figure 3 is a front view; and Figure 4 is a plan view.
The clip of the preferred embodiment of the invention in one form comprises a U-shaped body section 1 having opposad arms 2 and 3. One of the arms 2 on the inside thereof has two spaced apart ridges or ribs 4 and 5 located adjacent the opposite side edges of the arm 2. The other arm 3 has a rib 6 located centrally on the inside thereof and opposite the portion of arm 2 located between the ribs 4 and 5. One or both of the arms may be fanned out as at 7 to enable the clip to be more easily slipped over the nappy material. Also the ribs can be beveiled as at 8 to achieve the same result.
One or more of the ribs may be modified to give greater grip on the material. This may be done by adding teeth, serrations, bevels, and similar features, to the ribs.
One of the arms, may be angled inwardly as it is moved parallel to the other arm when the material is inserted, thus giving greater grip.
When the clip is attached to a nappy the material is forced to curl between the ribs and this ensures that the material cannot slide through the clip thus loosening the nappy.
The clips may be made of any suitable size, but are preferred to be of sufficient size to prevent swallowing by a baby. The clips may be constructed from any suitable material, and ideally may be constructed from a plastics material.
1. A clip for nappies comprising a substantially U-shaped body section having two arms said arms being provided with means to retain the nappy material between the arms.
2. A clip as defined in claim 1 wherein the means to retain the nappy material comprises one or more longitudinally extending ridges formed on the interior surface of each arm.
3. A clip as defined in claim 2 wherein one arm has one centrally located ridge, and the other arm has two ridges located near each side edge of the arm.
4. A clip as defined in claim 3 wherein one or more of said ridges is provided with teeth or serrations or bevels to allow greater grip on the material of a nappy (diaper).
5. A clip substantially as herein described with reference to and as illustrated by the accompanying drawings.
