Abstract

A big bale baler 1 for forming rolled big bales from agricultural crop material, the baler having driven winding rollers 3 which define the baling chamber 2 at the periphery thereof, end closure walls 4, and binding apparatus 7 for winding binding twine or the like around the finished bale and/or means 9 for wrapping a single wide web around the finished bale, wherein a working platform 11 is provided at least at one side of the baler. <IMAGE>

Description

SPECIFICATION Big bale baler. for agricultural crop material The invention relates to a big baler for forming rolled big bales from agricultural crop material, the baler having driven winding rollers which define the baling chamber at the periphery thereof, end closure walls, and binding apparatus for winding binding twine or the like around the finished bale and/or means for wrapping a single wide web around the finished bale.
Big bale balers of this kind have been proposed and in themselves operate satisfactorily. However, because of their height, it is extremely difficult to carry out necessary operations thereon, for example ioading a new roll of web therein, maintenance operations or the like. Such work is generally carried out by using a ladder which on the one hand must always be carried around while working in the field and which on the other hand affords the operator a more than dubious support if the widely varying ground conditions and the size of a fresh roll of web material to be loaded are taken into consideration.
The present invention is based on the problem of so designing a big bale baler that the requirements to be made thereon in regard to convenient and reliable accessibility both of the binding apparatus and also the winding apparatus are met in a satisfactory manner. In accordance with the invention, a working platform is provided at least at one side of the baler. The working platform may be secured to a side wall of the baler but desirably by a releasable connection. In order to ensure good accessibility even under particular conditions in respect of space, both side walls may have fixing means for mounting the working platform.
Preferably, receiving compartments for example for receiving rolls of web material, twine and the like are disposed below the platform floor of the working platform. It is furthermore desirable for the working platform and the compartments to be in the form of a single assembly unit.
An embodiment of the invention will now be described by way of example with reference to the accompanying drawings in which: Figure 1 shows a side view of the big bale baler, and Figure 2 shows a view in the direction indicated by the arrow B in Fig. 1, in its lefthand half, while its right-hand half is a view in the direction indicated by the arrow A in Fig.
1.
Reference numeral 1 denotes a big bale baler with driven winding rollers 3 which define the winding or baling chamber 2 at the periphery thereof and which are mounted in the side walls 4 which form end closures for the chamber. Parts of the side walls 4, jointly with the winding rollers mounted therein, can be pivoted away rearwardly in known manner so that a finished big bale can be ejected onto the ground. The baler is charged by means of a pick-up tine drum assembly 5 which transports the crop material through an opening 6 into the winding chamber. After a bale has been formed, binding twine (yarn) can be wound therearound in coil (helical) form. The binding apparatus 7 required for that purpose is connected to the front 8 of the big bale baler 1 and is conventional in the art.As an alternative thereto however, instead of being bound with binding twine, a single wide web or tape may be passed around the finished big bale. The winding means 9 required for that purpose is disposed on the big bale baler 1, at the top thereof. The construction and the function thereof is disclosed for example in German Published Patent Application (DE OS) No. 29 30 590. In order to be able to carry out necessary operations comfortably, in particular on the winding means 9, a working platform 10 is bolted to one of the two side walls 4, the platform floor 11 of the working platform 10 being set at such a height that the operator can readily reach the winding means 9 when standing on the platform floor 11.Disposed below the platform floor 11 are compartments or spaces 1 2 which can be closed on all sides and which serve to receive rolls 1 3 and 14 respectively of web and twine, and for accommodating the necessary switching elements 1 5.
