Fly-wheels, applications of. - Bicycles and other pedal-driven vehicles are provided with a fly-wheel interposed in the transmission between the pedal cranks and the road wheel or wheels. The transmission may comprise two chains, one between the crank shaft and the fly-wheel shaft, and the other between the fly-wheel shaft ,and the road-wheel shaft. A free-wheel device is fitted on the fly-wheel shaft or on the roadwheel shaft, or on both, and a hand-operated clutch may be fitted on the fly-wheel shaft, so that the latter may be disconnected from the road wheel. The fly-wheel consists of a bicycle wheel mounted on ball bearings and fitted with a heavy rod around the rim. The road wheel may be mounted in two pairs of stays bolted and clamped at the rear of an ordinary bicycle frame. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specifications 11852/89, 9399/00, and 10589/15.
