Abstract

Hollow artificial threads showing the gloss of natural silk and having a hollow core practically continuous throughout, are prepared from solutions of viscose containing air or other gas in solution or suspension, or other substances capable of producing a gaseous core within the thread, by employing a viscose of a low degree of ripening, such that the viscose is not coagulated when dropped into a 7 per cent common salt solution. The degree of ripening is adjusted according to the denier number of thread, being the lower as the thread is finer. Specifications 143,258 and 189,973 are referred to.
