Abstract

A welding pistol consists of a welding nozzle extending from a handle (1). The handle has a built-in illuminating device (3) for instance an ionic lamp, which is controlled from a switch (2) placed at the upper side of the welding handle (1). The device (3) illuminates the area at which the nozzle is pointed so a welding operator can see where to start welding without the need to remove the welding shield from his eyes. <IMAGE>

Description

SPECIFICATION Welding pistol This invention relates to the welding pistol of a metal welding apparatus.
Welding is often done in dark places or in areas where even though the surroundings are fully lit the welding is done in corners or other places which are in shade. This often results in eye damage when the welding operator removes his welding shield to be able to see the place where he has to start the weld at which time the operator's eyes will be exposed to the welding light. The phenomenon is called 'welding eyes'.
An object of the invention is to obviate or mitigate the aforementioned problem.
According to the present invention there is provided a welding pistol of a metal welding apparatus, comprising a welding nozzle extending from a handle and an illuminating device mounted on the handle to illuminate the area at which the welding nozzle is pointed.
An embodiment of the present invention will now be described by way of example with reference to the accompanying drawing (Figure 1) which shows in side elevation a welding pistol according to the present invention.
Referring to the drawing the welding pistol is part of a metal welding apparatus (not shown) and has a welding nozzle extending from a handle (1). The handle (1) has a built-in lighting device (3), for example an ionic lamp which illuminates the place at where the welding nozzle is pointed, so the welding area from the beginning is fully illuminated. The lighting device (3) is controlled from a switch (2) which for instance can be positioned on the upperside of the welding handle (1).
1. A welding pistol of a metal welding apparatus, comprising a welding nozzle extending from a handle and an illuminating device mounted on the handle to illuminate the area at which the welding nozzle is pointed.
2. A welding pistol as claimed in claim 1, in which the illuminating device is an ionic lamp.
3. A welding pistol of a metal welding apparatus substantially as herein before described with reference to the accompanying drawing.
