Abstract

A building block for boundary or garden walls, is constructed, during manufacture, to incorporate an integral coping stone as part of the finished block. <IMAGE>

Description

SPECIFICATION Improvements or modifications relating to boundary or garden walls The integrated coping stone This invention concerns building-blocks, stones, and bricks of all descriptions, which may be used in the construction of boundary or garden walls, whether the wall be for strictly utilitarian purposes or merely to add to the attractiveness of the area or garden in which it is built. It is, at present, customary to create a neat "finish" to the top of these walls by adding a coping or finishing stone for decorative effect. Coping stones currently in use tend to overiap at haphazard intervals, the the top of the stones or bricks they are covering, thus detracting from the appearance of the finished wall which they are meant to enhance.
This invention introduces into the building of boundary or garden walls, a new concept designed to obviate the time, cost and labour, which would otherwise be necessary to carry out the tedious and lengthy operation of separately adding the coping stone, and ensures that each coping stone matches in size, colour, and pattern, it's own corresponding stone or brick.
In effect the invention provides that the stones which are to occupy the topmost position on the wall, should be extended during the manufacturing process so as to incorporate the coping stone as an integral part of the block, thus doing away completely with the need to add a separate coping stone at a later stage in the building.
It would not be necessary for manufacturers to acquire new moulds, as extended moulds may be easily formed by joining the now defunct coping mould to the existing block mould by simply removing the intervening walls and fusing the two together.
This concept would cover all types of bricks or blocks of any size, shape, material, design, pattern or colour, whether they be of solid construction or decoratively open-worked.
The concept would allow patterns contained in the main body of any block or brick or stone, to be easily carried through to the integral coping, thus creating designs of good taste, and reaily artistic merit.
Notes to accompany drawings Fig. 1 a. Separate Block.
Fig. 1 b. Separate Coping, easily broken and requiring time, labour, and cement to join to block 1a.
Fig. 2. Integrated Coping and block. One entity.
Block 1 a, would, of course, be used to build the wall till one came to the point where one would then need the Integrated block 2, to finish off the topmost part of the wall.
Claims (Filed on 7 Jan. 1983) 1. Building Block for use in the construction of Boundary or Garden Walls, which is extended during manufacture to incorporate into itself an Integral Coping.
2. A Building Block as claimed in Claim 1 in which the shape is adapted to the need.
3. A Building Block as claimed in Claims 1, 2, in which the measurements are adapted to the needs arising.
4. A Building Block as claimed in Claims 1, 3, which is artificially coloured.
5. A Building Block as claimed in Claims 1, 2, 3, which incorporates no artificial colouring.
6. A Building Block as claimed in Claims 1, 2, 3, 4 or 5, which is solid and bears no pattern or design.
7. A Building Block as claimed in Claim 1, 2, 3, 4 or 5, which is solid and bears a pattern or design which is raised or impressed into one or both of it's sides.
8. A Building Block as claimed in Claims 1, 2, 3, 4 or 5, which is decoratively open-worked i.e.
the pattern or design penetrates through the Block to the other side.
9. A Building Block as claimed in Claims 1, 2, 3, 4 or 5, or any one of Claims 6, 7, and 8, which is made of any Building material what-so-ever, as used in the building of Walls, e.g. Concrete or Aggregrates, Natural or Simulated Stone, or Brick.
New or amended claims 1. A building element comprising a coping stone and an intermediate mouldable building brick or/ block integrally moulded, wherein the coping stone overlaps, on both sides, the intermediate building block which it is covering, and the complete element is laid in one "finishing" operation, thus reducing the steps necessary to complete a wall.
2. A building element according to Claim 1, manufactured from brick, concrete, aggregate, simulated stone, or other mouldable building material.
3. A building element according to Claim I, or Claim 2, in which patterns, which may penetrate the block, are carried by the Integral Coping.
4. A building element substantially in accordance with any one of the embodiments described herein with reference to the accompanying drawings.
