Safes; locks operating alarms; multiple fastenings. -The multiple bolt of a safe door is blocked by the bolt of a keylock which in its fully shot position closes a switch so that on either shooting the bolt beyond its normal fastening position against a spring, or on attempting to force the door, contacts are made which result in the ringing of an alarm. Fig. 1 shows the way in which the alarm bell 10 carried by the safe door is connected to the battery 14 and the contact switches 6, 12, 22. The bolt 3 with an arm 3a is shown in its normal fastening position, a spring 7 holding it against further forward movement unless forced. The bolt 3 is blocked by the bolt of the key lock 4 taking into the recess 5. One turn of the key of the lock 4 blocks the bolt 3, two turns also closes the switch 12. When the switch 12 is closed and the bolt is forced forward against the spring 7, the contact switch 6 is closed and the current passes up the lead 8 to the bell terminal 9, through the bell-coil to the terminal 11. through the lead 27 to the terminal 12, through the lead 28 to the battery pole 13, through the battery to pole 15 and through the lead 29 back to the contact switch 6. As the current passed through the coil of the bell, the armature carrying the clapper was attracted, releasing the member 30 which then made a contact with the terminal 20 to complete the continuous bell ringing circuit, as follows, terminal 20, lead 19, battery pole 15, battery, pole 13, lead 28, terminal 12, lead 27, terminal 11, bell-coil, back to terminal 20. The door 2 is held by a spring 26 so that a contact switch 22 similar to 6 is adjacent to a part 23 in the frame. On forcing the door inwards against the spring 26, the switch 22 is closed and the alarm bell rings, the continuous belt ringing circuit being again completed. On closing the switch 22. the current passes through the lead 24 to the bell terminal 9, through the bellcoil to terminal 11, through the lead 27 to terminal 12, through the lead 28 to terminal 13 of the battery, through the battery to terminal 15, through the lead 25 back to the switch 22. The bell 10 and battery 14 are mounted on the insides of hinged flaps 17, 18 respectively for ease of renewal. Fire-resisting material 16 surrounds battery bell.
