Abstract

604,416. Theft alarms. DROGOMIRECKI, K. April 11, 1946, No. 11236. [Class 118 (i)] [Also in Group XXXVII] In an alarm device for indicating the theft of vehicles consisting of an electric horn, or the like, in circuit with a battery, a circuit setting switch, and contact means adapted to close on tampering with the vehicle, the circuit setting switch is incorporated in the vehicle door lock and is closed when the door is locked and open when it is unlocked, the said switch comprising a stationary contact member and a further member forming a movable part of the door lock comprising a conducting portion and an insulating portion. The contact means may consist of press-button type switches normally maintained open by the closure of the doors, bonnet flaps, luggage and sparewheel compartments, Figs. 3 and 4 (not shown). In a suitable circuit, Fig. 5, the horn 29 is connected in series with relay contacts 30 and door circuit setting switch 32; relay winding 33 and all the contact means 34 in parallel are also connected in series with switch 32. The relay is of the type which when tripped remains closed till released by hand. The horn cannot operate when the door is unlocked and switch 32 open. Locking the door sets the alarm which operates on closure of any of contacts 34 and sounds until the door is again unlocked by the correct key. Key-operated switch. Incorporated in the door lock is a switch consisting of a contact member 1 in an insulated sleeve 2 loaded by a spring 5 and mounted in a boring 3 in the shank of the handle. A suitable insulated connecting brush 10 connects the member 1 with a terminal 9. An insulating insert 15 is provided in the movable part 12 of the door lock which is turned by the key 14. Fig. 1 shows the unlocked position and Fig. 2 indicates how, when the door is locked, the insert is moved away from the end of contact 1 which then touches the metal portion of the bolt 12 and connects terminal 9 with the vehicle chassis.
