Abstract
213,027. Jones, W. Jan. 4, 1923. Straightening; stretching; corrugating.-In a machine for flattening, stretching and straightening galvanized or black sheets &c., the sheets are fed and delivered by rolls and are flattened between a power-driven hammer and an anvil. The hammer 12 is adjustably connected through cushioning springs 16 and nuts 14, 15 to forked rods 10 driven by connecting-rods 9 fro:n shafts 27, 28 connected by gearing to a central main shaft. The anvil 17 is mounted on a rubber or like resilient bed. The feed and delivery rolls 20, 21 are mounted in brackets 19, the upper roll of each pair being adjusted by a screw 23 and spring 22. The upper and lower rolls of each pair are geared together and the lower rolls are driven by chain gear 33 from the shafts 27, 28, The rolls are provided with flats or the like or are stopped at intervals while the hammer is flattening the sheet &c. The rolls 21 are of larger diameter than the rolls 20 or the gear ratios are arranged so that these rolls have a greater peripheral speed than the rolls 20 in order to stretch and straighten the sheet &c. Several pairs of rolls may be used and the dies constructed so as to corrugate the sheets after they are flattened.
