Abstract

A coupon bag 1 bears a representation of a clothed person. The coupon bag 1 is made of a material which is opaque in a first region and transparent in a second region (shown hatched in the drawing), the second region enabling cloth eg for a suit contained in the bag to be viewed. The first region at least completely surrounds the second region. <IMAGE>

Description

SPECIFICATION Coupon Bag This invention relates to a coupon bag, that is to say a bag for holding a length of cloth, particularly a suit length of cloth.
The present invention provides a coupon bag bearing a representation of a clothed persion, the coupon bag being made of a material which is opaque in a first region and transparent in a second region, the second region being occupied by a particular item of wearing apparel of the clothed person, and the first region at least completely surrounding the second region.
In a preferred embodiment, the coupon is opaque in substantially all regions except said second region.
Advantageously, the coupon bag is made of transparent polyvinylchloride sheet material which is coated with coloured dye except in said second region.
Preferably, the coupon bag carries a representation of a man wearing a suit. In this case, only those parts of the coupon bag occupied by the suit are transparent.
Conveniently, the coupon bag is made from two sheets of material whose edges are heat-welded together. In this case, the representation is provided on one of said sheets, and a sample pocket may be provided on the other of said sheets, the sample pocket being constituted by a rectangular sheet of transparent polyvinylchloride material which is heatwelded to said other sheet along three sides of the rectangular sheet.
A coupon bag constructed in accordance with the invention has the advantage that, when a length of cloth is placed inside the coupon bag, it is apparent from looking at the bag how the particular item of wearing apparel is likely to look when that item is made up from the cloth enclosed within the bag.
A coupon bag constructed in accordance with the invention will now be described, by way of example, with reference to the accompanying drawing, the single figure of which is a plan view, partially broken-away, of the coupon bag.
Referring to the drawing, a coupon bag 1 is made from a pair of sheets (only the front sheet 2 of which can be seen) which are heat-welded together along three of their edges 3. The remaining edges 4 of the sheets define the mouth of the bag 1 through which a suit length of cloth (not shown) can be inserted.
Once the cloth has been inserted into the coupon bag 1, the edges 4 are heat-welded together to form a completely closed package.
The front sheet 2 of the coupon bag 1 bears a representation, indicated generally by the reference numeral 5, of a man wearing a shirt 6, a tie 7 and a suit 8. The representation 5 also shows the man's hands 9, the man's face 10 and the man's hair 11.
The internal surfaces of the sheets making up the coupon bag 1 are coated with coloured dyes in all regions except those occupied by the suit 8. Thus, the coupon bag 1 is opaque except in the regions occupied by the suit 8 (these regions being shown hatched). In the particular example shown, the shirt 6, the tie 7, the hands 9, and the face 10 are all coated in a white dye, the hair 11 is coated in a black dye, and the remaining surfaces of the sheets are coated in a green dye. The outlines of the representation 5 are also coated in black dye. Consequently, when a suit length of cloth is inserted into the coupon bag 1 the cloth can be seen only through the transparent regions occupied by the suit 8 so that it is apparent from looking at the coupon bag from the front, how a suit made up from the cloth is likely to look.
Although not shown in the drawing, the rear sheet of the coupon bag is provided with a sample pocket.
This sample pocket is constituted by a rectangular sheet of transparent polyvinylchloride which is heatwelded to the rear sheet of the coupon bag 1 along three sides of the rectangular sheet. A sample of the cloth enclosed within the coupon bag 1 is held within the sample pocket, and this sample is readily removable so that a customer can feel the cloth.
Obviously, the region of the front sheet 2 surrounding the representation 5 could carry additional representations, for example, the name of the cloth manufacturer, the type and content of the cloth, the price etc.
It will be apparent that the coupon bag described above could be modified in a number of ways. For example, the representation could be of a man wearing a sports jacket and trousers, only that region occupied by the sports jacket being transparent. In this case, the coupon bag would be intended to contain a length of cloth suitable for making a sports jacket. It would also be possible for the coupon bag to carry a representation of a lady wearing, for example, a suit or skirt and blouse. In this case, transparent regions of the coupon bag would be those occupied respectively by the suit or the skirt, and the coupon bag would be intended to contain a length of cloth suitable for making a suit or a skirt respectively. It would also be possible for the coupon bag to carry a representation of a man wearing nationai dress - such as a difhdafh, an abba or a gilabea of the Middle-East, an African dress of Nigeria or an Indian sari.
It will also be apparent that the colours of the opaque regions of the coupon bag could be varied.
1. A coupon bag bearing a representation of a clothed person, the coupon bag being made of a material which is opaque in a first region and transparent in a second region, the second region being occupied buy a particular item of wearing apparel of the clothed person, and the first region at least completely surrounding the second region.
2. A coupon bag as claimed in Claim 1,wherein the coupon bag is opaque in substantially all regions except said second region.
3. A coupon bag as claimed in Claim 1 or Claim 2, wherein the coupon bag is made of transparent polyvinylchloride sheet material which is coated with coloured dye except in said second region.
4. A coupon bag as claimed in any one of Claims 1 to 3, wherein the coupon bag carries a representation of a man wearing a suit.
