Abstract

212,934. Krupp Akt.-Ges, F. March 16, 1923, [Convention date]. Ordnance, discharging by means external to breech mechanism.-Relates to a distantlycontrolled naval gun A mounted on a rolling platform and fired by electric contacts, one k' of which is stabilized by a gyroscope K, the other contact i<2> rolling with the gun. According to the invention, a special driving motor F is provided at the transmitting station for imparting a substantially uniform velocity to the gun and the non-stabilized contact i<2> as tney pass through the firing position during the rolling-up movement. The gun is elevated for range by a transmitter D the shaft d<2> of which is rotated through a differential gear d<3> by a range-setting device E. The transmitter D rotates a receiver B at the gun which is geared to the gun elevating-arc the outside a<3> of which drives the mark c<2> of an indicator Q<4>. The shaft d<2> also operates a transmitter Q connected to the pointer q<5> of the indicator Q<4> which pointer should permanently register with the mark c<2>. Prior to firing, the gun together with the non-stabilized contact i<2> are turned through a small angle a in the anticlockwise direction bv actuating the transmitters D, G from a shaft f<1>. This shaft is rotated by a hand-wheel f<11> to suit the angle a read on a drum f<13>. By operating a clutch f<10>, and switching in the uniformly running motor F as the gun and contact are rolling up to the firing position, the shaft f<1> is rotated to speed up the gun and contact to recover the angle a and provide a uniform movement whilst the contact i<2>, k<1> is being made. A hand-wheel B<3> and' clutch b<4> are provided so that the gun can be adjusted independently of the receiver B to ensure the pointer q<5> registering with the mark c' after each discharge.
