Abstract
212,890. Bim, H., (Assignee of Kirsch, G.). March 12, 1923, [Convention date]. Void [Published under Sect. 91 of the Act]. Spring shackles.-A spring suspension for vehicles comprises a pivoted member connected to an extensible resilient device which exerts a pull on the pivoted member to return it to its initial position after displacement therefrom. As shown in Fig. 2, the pivoted member consists of a laminated spring 3 secured at 4 to the axle 1 and pivoted at 5 to the chassis 2, and the resilient device consists of a helical spring 7 connected to the spring 3 and chasis 2 at 6 and 8 respectively. In the modification shown in Fig. 5, the spring 7 is connected to a lever 9 pivoted on the chassis and connected by a link 12 to an arm 13 on the spring 3. The spring 7 may be replaced by an india-rubber tension device, or by two or more springs arranged in parallel or in tandem, and the spring 3 may comprise two superposed laminated springs. In a further modification the springs 7, instead of being directly connected to the chassis, is connected to a spring-controlled two-armed lever pivoted to the chassis. The extensible resilient device may be constructed so that the spring is in compression. When two devices, such as shown in Fig. 2, are used as a transverse suspension, the springs 7 are connected to the centre of the axle instead of to the chassis. The spring controlled flexible or rigid levers may be combined with ordinary quarter or semi-elliptic or cantilever suspension springs.
