Description

SPECIFICATION Bag or purse The invention relates to a bag or purse which is particularly suitable for holding flat objects and is intended to be worn on a belt.
Various types of bags are purses, for instance intended for holding flat objects and for being worn on a belt, are known. They have one or more carrying loops, which may be seif-contained i.e.
they are complete loops not involving part of the bag in the loop as such, and which are intended to receive the belt. The bag opening, which is disposed on the outside, that is to say that side of the bag part which is remote from the wearer, is easily accessible. It may be provided with a closure means, such as a sliding clasp fastener or press stud, in order to discourage unauthorised persons from opening it. Despite the closure means, bags of this kind do not offer adequate safety against theft, since they can be left open, cut open or even cut away from the support.
The aim of the present invention is to provide a bag or purse which is less likely to be emptied by unauthorised persons or cut away from the carrying loop without attracting the attention of the wearer.
According to the invention there is provided a bag or purse intended to be worn on a belt including a bag part and a self-contained carrying loop to receive the belt, wherein the upper edge of the carrying loop is fastened along a line at or near the upper edge of the bag part the bag having an opening below said line on that side of the bag part which is remote from the carrying loop.
Due to the fastening of the top edge of the selfcontained carrying loop along a line in the upper edge region of the bag part, the latter can be fastened inside the garment on which the belt is worn. Since the bag part is worn inside the garment and its opening is situated below the line along which the carrying loop is fastened, and on that side of the bag part which is remote from the carrying loop, the wearer himself can without difficulty reach the contents of the bag. On the other hand, no unauthorised person can take anything from the bag without arousing the attention of the wearer, since such a person would have to put his hand between the outer garment and the underclothes or even between the outer garment and the skin because of the low position of the opening. For the same reason the bag cannot be cut open or cut off.In addition, the presence of the bag according to the invention cannot be detected at first glance, since it is positioned inside a garment -- trousers or skirt.
In order to permit the bag according to the invention to be worn in the most inconspicuous manner possible, the top edge of the carrying loop is fastened to the bag part so as to be flush with the top edge of the latter on the loop side. The outer surface of the carrying loop can then be in the form of known makers' marks, as for example in the case of jeans, and thus have the appearance of an element forming part of the garment and attracting no attention.
In order to make it difficult for unauthorised persons to gain access to the bag, a flap or tab can be disposed over the opening of the bag, covering all or only part of the opening.
An example of embodiment of the invention is explained more fully below with the aid of the accompanying drawings, which are purely schematical and in which: Figure 1 is a rear view of a bag according to the invention; Figure 2 is a front view of the bag shown in Figure 1; Figure 3 is a section through the bag shown in Figure 1, taken on the line Ill-Ill; and Figure 4 repeats the section shown in Figure 3 of the bag shown in Figure 1, while however the bag is fastened on the belt of a garment.
The bag part 1 of the bag shown in Figures 1 to 4 comprises two walls 2, 3 which are of unequal length and which are joined together by a seam 4.
On the outside of the longer wall 2 is disposed, flush with its top edge 5, the top edge 7 of a selfcontained carrying loop 6 consisting of two parallel parts 8, 9, the edge 7 being fastened by a seam 10. At the same time the seam 10 joins together the two parts 8, 9 of the carrying loop 6, which are also joined together along a bottom seam 12 parallel to the top seam 10. A bag opening 13 is formed by the top edge 14 of the shorter wall 3. In its middle region the opening 1 3 is covered over by a flap or tab 1 5, which by means of the seam 10 is fastened on the inside of the wall 2, flush with the top edge 14 of the latter.
The same seam 10 also serves to fasten the carrying loop 6 on the outside of the longer wall 2 and to join together the two parts 8, 9 of the carrying loop 6. The end points of the seams 4, 10 and 1 2 are reinforced by rivets, in order to allow for the greater stressing occurring at those points.
The bottom corners 17, 18 of the bag part 1 are rounded, so that insertion into the garment is facilitated and better adaptation to the wearer's body is permitted when the bag is worn.
A belt 1 9 is pulled through the carrying loop 6 of the bag 1 shown in section in Figure 4, so that the bag is held fast between the wearer's body (not shown) and a garment 20, for example trousers or skirt. The bag is thus positioned astride, so to speak, the waistband terminating the garment at the top, the carrying loop 6 hanging down on the outside of the garment and the bag part 1 on the inside. The bag opening 13 and thus also the flap 15 face the wearer.
The bag according to the invention can be made of any hard-wearing sheet material, such as textile materials, plastics materials, or preferably leather.
The shapes and proportions of the individual elements of the bag may be varied depending on the size of the wearer's body and on the articles to be contained in the bag.
The bag opening may be provided with a closure means, such as a sliding clasp fastener, Velcro fastener, press stud or the like, in order to increase the safety of the contents of the bag.
The bag according to the invention is suitable above all for holding documents, such as passports, driving licence and the like, and also valuables such as bank notes and cheque books. It is inconspicuous and its contents cannot be removed without the wearer's knowledge. If the loop should be cut open from outside, the bag will still be fastened securely until the belt is loosened since the part of the loop on the body side will be held fast by the belt.
