Description
SPECIFICATION
Pouch
This invention is concerned with improvements in or relating to pouches which may be carried or worn by a person and in which items of value may be kept.
The change in fashion whereby men, in particular, have tended to discard jackets in favour of more casual clothing has resulted in the disappearance of the 'inside pocket' as a secure place for carrying valuable documents, cheque books or paper money. The carrying of such possessions in the side of back pocket of a pair of trousers is far from secure as they may easily be 'picked' from such pockets or actually fall out during normal wear. Additionally, it can be uncomfortable to have a substantial or rigid item such as a passport in a trouser pocket.
Special belts with means for carrying items such as ammunition or money are known but these have amounted to little more than the provision of a small internal or external pocket, one wall of which is formed by the belt itself. Leather money pouches are also available but, if affixed to a belt, they may be uncomfortable when worn by someone in anything other than an erect position. If the wearer bends or sits down, the rigidity of the pouch tends to cause it to dig into the thigh or stomach causing discomfort. The larger the pouch, the more ungainly and uncomfortable is it to wear; the smaller the pouch, the less useful is it for storing possessions. The problems may be eased if the pouch is not firmly secured to the person but then the risk of loss through accident or theft is increased.
It is an object of the present invention to provide a pouch which may be of a substantial size but which, nevertheless, is flexible so as to be capable of being securely affixed to a person without being uncomfortable to wear.
According to the invention there is provided a pouch made, substantially, of flexible, supple material such as a natural or synthetic woven fibre (for example, a normal textile material used in the manufacture of clothing) or a plastics material and being of a size sufficient to contain a passport, wallet and/or cheque book and being provided with a loop or loops by means of which it may be firmly secured to a belt.
In order that the invention may be well understood, one embodiment thereof will now be described by way of illustration only with reference to the accompanying drawings in which
Figure 1 is a perspective view of a pouch in accordance with the invention.
Figure 2 is a view of the pouch shown in
Fig. 1 affixed to a belt and opened so as to admit of the insertion of or removal of items.
The pouch 1 comprises front 2, back 3 and side 4 panels of fabric such as, for example, denim material. Two substantial loops 5 are sewn to back panel 3 as shown in Fig. 1 although they could also have been formed providing four parallel and co-extensive slits in back panel 3. Side panel 4 is provided with a zip 6 as shown most clearly in Fig. 2 to open and close the pouch.
In use, the pouch is threaded on to a belt 7 which, itself, has been threaded through the loops of a pair of trousers. It then hangs freely when the trousers are worn and may be opened and closed by manipulation of zip 6.
In practice, the pouch may be made of the same material as the trousers so as to match them. The pouch bends or folds when the wearer bends or sits down so as to provide no discomfort unless it is filled with rigit items.
The pouch loses little of its flexibility if it is only partially filled.
1. A pouch made, substantially, of flexible, supple material and being of a size sufficient to contain a passport, wallet and/or cheque book and being provided with a loop or loops by means of which it may be firmly secured to a belt.
2. A pouch according to Claim 1 in which the flexible, supple material is a natural or synthetic woven fibre or a plastics material.
3. A pouch substantially as described herein with reference to the accompanying drawings.
