Description

SPFCIFICATION Compact cassette holders Compact cassette holders are conventionally of rack form and as such they are used extensively in the home and also in automobiles.
The term "compact cassette" refers to standard tape cassettes as used by the public in cassette radios and cassette players. They are conventionally marketed, whether blank or prerecorded, in individual boxes displaying identification data.
The present invention provides a flexible holder which can be conveniently carried.
A compact cassette holder according to the present invention is characterised in that it is in the form of a pouch of flexible material which pouch comprises a panel having a carrying portion on the inside of which there is or are a pocket or pockets of dimensions and disposition suitable for holding boxed compact cassettes located side by side in a horizontal row or a plurality of rows one beneath another, and on the outside of which there is means whereby the pouch can be connected to an article of clothing for carriage by the wearer, leaving the hands free, with the said pocket(s) orientated for holding boxed cassettes in (a) horizontal row(s) as aforesaid; said panel also having a flap portion which folds downwardly over the said carrying portion for closing the pouch.
In preferred embodiments of the invention the means whereby the pouch can be connected to an article of clothing is of a form permitting connection of the pouch to a trouser belt so that the pouch is held against the user' waist.
Preferably said means comprises one or more loops through which a trouser belt can be threaded.
It is preferred to provide one or more pockets which or each of which is of a horizontal length sufficient to receive a plurality (preferably three) boxed cassettes side by side in a horizontal row.
However, there may be individual side by side pockets for receiving the individual boxed cassettes of a row. Preferably there are pockets for receiving two rows of boxed cassettes.
It is convenient to provide the carrying portion of the panel with pockets which are disposed so that boxed cassettes can be held thereby in two or more said rows located one above another, and so that such carrying portion can be folded along a line or lines between said rows to bring neighbouring rows into face to face relationship, and to provide fastening means whereby the flap portion can be fastened to said carrying portion of the panel to hold it in such folded condition. The fastening means can for example be of "Velcro" (R.T.M.) type.
It is advantageous to provide the pouch with a handle in the form of a loop by which the pouch can be carried suspended from a hand or which can be hitched onto a fixture, e.g. a door handle in an automobile.
An embodiment of the invention, selected by way of example, is illustrated in the accompanying diagrammatic drawings wherein Fig. 1 is a view of the inside of the pouch when open and Fig. 2 is a rear view of the pouch when closed.
The illustrated pouch comprises a panel 1 including a carrying portion 2 and a flap portion 3.
On the inside of the carrying portion there are two pockets 4 and 5 each extending transversely of the panel. Each pocket has a depth sufficient to accommodate more than half the height of a cassette box when it is upstanding in the pocket.
Cassette boxes 6 and 7 are shown located in such position in the pockets. A standard cassette box is 428 in height. In this example each of the pockets 4 and 5 has a depth of approximately 3". Each pocket has a length (measured horizontally) sufficient to hold three cassette boxes side by side in a row.
Behind pocket 5, and on the outside of the pouch a piece of material 8 (Fig. 2) is secured by its top and bottom margins to the panel so as to form a loop through which a trouser belt 9 can pass.
The pouch can be closed by folding the lower part of the carrying portion 2 of the panel upwardly to bring its pocket 4 against pocket 5, and then folding down the flap portion 3 over the outside of that lower part. On the inside of this flap portion there is a Velcro (R.T.M.) strip 10 which co-operates with a registering Velcro (R.T.M.) strip (not shown) on the outside of said lower panel part to hold the pouch closed.
A hand loop 11 is connected to the pouch.
There may be one or more pockets on the outside of the panel. For example there may be a pocket on the outside of the flap portion 3 for the storage of sun-glasses, or other small articles.
Such outside pocket may be fitted with a slide fastener. The hand loop 11 can for example be connected to the slider tab of such a fastener.
