Abstract

A conveyor 9, such as a helical chute or the like, is provided with a rain roof having lateral roof sections 1 held and lifted by carrying ropes 12. The sections are similar to an umbrella and connected to at least three carrying ropes 12, which are non-positively connected to a rope drum 15 which is rotatably mounted on the vertical conveyor so that the lateral roof sections can be lifted and lowered. The sections are coupled to a centrally symmetrical, conical roof top 3 provided with a vertical bushing 4 mounted on the vertical conveyor and is vertically movable by means of a roller bearing 7. The roof is associated with a ship's hatch.

Description

SPECIFICATION Rain roof for vertical conveyors This invention relates to a rain roof for vertical conveyors, such as helical chutes or the like, particularly a centrally symmetrical rain roof, which has relatively movable parts and is intended for use with hatches of ships, which rain roof has lateral roof sections held and lifted by carrying ropes.
The rain roof for vertical conveyors which is known from German Patent Application P 30 09 139.5 also comprises relatively movable parts and has various advantages but has the disadvantage that its frame is relatively heavy and expensive.
Laid-open German Application 28 48 836 discloses also a roof for a conveyor but is intended and designed only for use with bridge scrapers.
It is an object of the invention to provide hatches for loading and unloading ships (although dumps of bulk material may also constitute a field of application) with a cover which is weatherproof and relatively light in weight and inexpensive and can be used during the loading and unloading of the ship. Another object of the invention is to provide an arrangement which is economically more desirable and requires relatively small space.
The object is accomplished according to the invention in that the lateral roof sections are similar to an umbrella and connected to at least three carrying ropes, which are non-positively connected to a rope drum which is rotatably mounted on the vertical conveyor so that the lateral roof sections can be lifted and lowered, and a centrally symmetrical, conical roof top is provided with a vertical bushing mounted on the vertical conveyor and is vertically movable.
In a preferred embodiment of the invention the bushing has two circular sections and comprises a circular series of sealing lips, which are slidably guided on the vertical conveyor, and watertightly engage a centrally disposed shell.
It has proved to be desirable to make the umbrella-like lateral roof sections and the conical inner roof top of canvaslike, weatherproof synthetic material and to provide the umbrella like lateral roof sections with one or more circular reinforcing portions to which fixing eyes or the like are connected.
The radial reinforcing sections are suitably secured by means of tie-down ropes to the hull which is associated with the hatch.
Additional features and advantages of the invention are apparent from the following description of an embodiment shown by way of examples.
Figure 1 is a general view in front elevation, Figure 2 is a horizontal sectional view taken on plane A-A in Figure 1 or on a plane through the rope drum as viewed on the rope-deflecting rollers and the carrying ropes, Figure 3 is a corresponding horizontal sectional view on plane B-B in Figure 1 as viewed on the backing rollers and the inner guide rollers on a circular track, and Figure 4 is an enlarged view showing a detail of Figure 1 in which the conical inner roof top and the lateral roof sections have been shifted.
The centrally symmetrical rain roof which has relatively movable parts and is intended for use with vertical conveyors, such as helical chutes or the like, is provided with lateral sections 1 which are similar to an umbrella and are secured to the upper ring 2 of a conical inner roof top 3. The conical roof top 3 is adapted to be lifted and lowered by means of a guide bushing 4, which is mounted on the vertical conveyor 9. The guide bushing 4 consists of elastic material and is mounted in a hub 5 and is guided on the shell 8 by means of guiding rollers 6 of a roller bearing 7.
The circular series of sealing lips 10 seal the air gap 11 between the bushing 4 and the shell 8.
The lateral roof sections 1 are held and lifted by at least three carrying ropes 12, which are nonpositively connected to a rope drum 15, which is rotatably mounted on the vertical conveyor 9 and operable to lift and lower the ropes 1 2. The carrying ropes 12 are trained around rope- deflecting rollers 1 3 and extend into rope grooves 14 of the rope drum 1 5, which is provided with internally disposed, rotatably mounted backing rollers 1 6 for supporting the drum and with radially extending inner guide rollers 1 7.
The backing rollers 1 6 are movable on a circular track 18, to which another bearing bracket 1 9 for the rope-deflecting rollers 13 is secured.
The guide rollers 1 7 engage a shell track 20, which is connected by fasteners 21, 22 to the shell 8 of the vertical conveyor 9. A rack 23 meshing with a pinion 24 and an output shaft 25 of a drive 26 are provided near the upper portion of the drum.
The conical inner roof top 3 and the umbrellalike side sections 1 consist preferably of a canvaslike or tentclothlike, weatherproof synthetic material. The umbrellalike roof sections 1 have one or more elastic circular reinforcing portions 27, which are connected to fixing eyes 28 or the like.
