Abstract

Electrical power sockets 5 are mounted in a cylindrical sheet metal circular box 1 in a circular cavity 4, 4a in a wall 2. The socket may have a circular rear section to fit into the cavity. The cavity may be made by drilling. <IMAGE>

Description

SPECIFICATION Electrical power sockets and mountings Technical field of application Electrical power engineering industry Background art It is common practice to mount recessed electrical power sockets in a rectangular cavity in a wall.
Solution of the technical problem It is difficult to produce a rectangular cavity in a wall, this is time consuming for the fitter and is difficult to mechanise. The main advantage with the invention is that socket fitting is reduced to drilling the wall, and thus effecting a considerable time saving.
Patent drawings Figure 1 shows a sectional view through a mounting 1, a wall 2 and end plate 3. The circular cavities 4 and 4a are all that are required to fit an electrical socket 5 to the wall Figures 2 and 3 shows two views of the mounting 1 manufactured from sheet metal and having the following features:- a) Tags 6 to attach the end plate 3 to the mounting 1.
b) Tags 6 also are bent in such a manner that they will resist axial outward movement after insertion in wall.
c) Triple joggles 7 are so formed to accept a screw used to attach a socket 5 to the mounting 1.
d) Tags 8 used to maintain the mounting 1 into a circular shape.
e) Tags 8 to prevent the mounting 1 from rotating in the wall 2 after insertion.
Figures 4, 5 and 6 side elevation, and rear view of the electrical power socket 9 which utilises rectangular section electrical sockets 10 to accept electrical plugs with rectangular pins. The socket 9 has a circular rear section 11 in order to fit into a circular mounting such as item 1.
Best mode The best mode of application envisaged is the use of the invention in industry and homes when it is required to disconnect/connect an electrical apparatus from/to a source of electrical power.
Exploitation and use in industry The invention can be designed to: a) Reduce manufacturing costs of electrical plugs and sockets.
b) Reduce the cost of installing electrical sockets.
The method of manufacture envisaged is to construct the mounting 1 out of sheet metal, the body of the socket 9 from insulating material mouldings, the electrically conducting parts from metal.
Claims
1. A method of mounting electrical power sockets in a mounting medium by means of substantially circular cavities as shown in figure 1.
2. A socket mounting substantially as shown in figures 1, 2 and 3 including the use of tags to prevent the mounting substantially moving after it is inserted into a mounting medium.
3. An electrical socket using electrical power connections of substantially rectangular section as shown in figures 4, 5 and 6 with a substantially circular rear section which is capable of being fitted into substantially circular mountings.
