Abstract

212,360. Dickinson & Co., Ltd., J., and Ellens, W. E. Jan. 23, 1923. Envelopes and the like, making.-Relates to machines for making wallets or cases of the type used for carrying photographic films or prints, a cut blank of the type shown in Fig. 1, being employed. The blank is forced by a plunger 47, Fig. 1, through an opening 40, which turns up the flaps F, G of the blank, the flaps then being folded flat on the body of the blank by folding- plates 4. Adhesive H is applied to the flaps F in the usual manner prior to folding. The blank is folded along the centre-line J by means of two thin arcuate arms 29, 30, Fig. 2, which carry the blank through a slot in the plate 2 between pairs of rollers 9, 11 and 10, 12, which complete the creasing. The rollers are driven by spur pinions 20 - - 24 from a sprocket-wheel 19, and the rollers 11, 12 are pressed by springs 17, 18 against the rollers 9, 10. Where stiff paper is employed, the plate 2 may take the form of a pair of hinged plates which swing downwards as the blades 29, 30 engage the blank, thus assisting the central folding, or the blank may be transferred after the pockets have been formed to separate central folding apparatus in which a reciprocating blade descends to bend and force the blank between the rollers 9 - - 12.
