Abstract
212,201. Koppers Co. Nov. 27, 1922. Addition to 100,131. Materials for puri fying.- Sulphuretted hydrogen is removed from coke oven gas &c. by washing with an alkali solution such as sodium car bonate, which is re generated by treat ment with an iror compound as de scribed in the parent Specification and the step of regenerating the iron compounc by aeration is omit ted, the iron sulphide either being discarded and replaced by fresh iron compound, or converted into the original iron compound by a treatment other than aeration. The gas to be purified enters a washer A at 1 and leaves at 2. Sodium carbonate solution enters the washer at the top and passes out from the bottom by a pipe 4 to a tank 5. It is then passed to a mixer B in which it is treated with a suspension of an iron compound such as iron oxide, haematite, basic ferric carbonate, or ferrous compounds. The liquor is then passed to a separating apparatus C such as a Dorr thickener, the suspended matter being returned to the mixer B while the sodium carbonate solution is passed to a filter E and thence to a store tank 11 from which it is fed to the washing apparatus A. The solution may be also treated by aeration to remove any remaining sulphur.
