The frames are raised and lowered to facilitate insertion of the fabric and to adjust its pressure on the singe plates by sliding bars e pivoted to the frames d and con- ' trolled by a hand-wheel 13 through toothed gearing and link mechanism as shown. The heights of the frames at the ends of each single plate are adjusted independently by hand-wheels 10, 11 acting through screw and bevel gearing to adjust the lengths of links h connected by bell-crank levers g to the sliding bars e.
