Abstract
A domestic compost agitator has a cylindrical container. The axis of the container is horizontal or inclined. A door may be provided in one or both ends of the container.
Description
SPECIFICATION
Compost agitator
This invention is concerned with the production of compost. Unlike the present compost bins used in the UK, compost can be made in a drum rotated one revolution per day.
This aerates the waste matter and accelerates composting so that it is ready within a few weeks.
This patent is claimed for two versions of compost activator a) A type similar to those now produced abroad with a drum on a horizontal axis but with the drum supported on casters on the periphery at each end and rotated through one caster by a freewheel and handle.
b) A version as above, but with the axis so angled that the waste can be put in at the upper end and compost taken out at the lower end. With the correct angle and sufficient waste, compost can be produced on a continuous basis.
Claims
This invention pertains to a system of compost making using agitation instead of the common static bin. The application is made in two parts:
a) The basic invention consists of a drum, mounted with the axis horizontal and supported each end with a pair of casters. The drum has a door(s) for loading the waste and discharging the compost after a few weeks.
The drum can be rotated through gearing or a freewheel through a caster.
b) An advanced version consisting of a drum mounted with the axis at a suitable angle so that the waste can be put in through a door in the upper end and discharged at the lower end when composted. The drive can be as above. To facilitate transportation, the drum can be made in sections and assembled on receipt.
