Plug cocks; leakage, discharging.-The body 4 of a cock for use in milk - pasteurising apparatus is provided with transverse apertures 8 so that any milk which may leak past the closure surface is discharged outside the milk conduit and thus does not contaminate the pasteurised milk. These apertures also discharge milk held in the passage 2 when the cock is turned off, and facilitate the cleaning of the passage. Modifications are described in which the passages 8 are replaced by grooves in the surface of the plug socket or by passages bored in the casing and leading from the socket. The inlets to such passages are of the same or greater axial length than that of the milk passage through the plug. A spring 5 acting through a ball bearing 6 may be provided to retain the plug in its seating.
