Abstract

211,360. Mountford, W. March 21, 1923. Goggles.-In eye-protectors for mine workers in the form of goggles having air inlets near the bridge-piece and air outlets arranged diametrically opposite to the inlets, one or more of the inlets are situated below the level of the eyes and communicate with the space above the level of the eyes by means of a tubular element arranged near to the bridge-piece. The body portions of the eyepieces are made of ordinary leather and shaped to fit around each eye. A side portion 3 engages the temples, and transparent shields 4 are fitted. Below the flexible bridge-piece 5 two air inlets 7, 8 are provided, one of which communicates with the space above the eyes by means of a tubular member 10 as shown, and the other with a pocket 11 having a cover to provide a long and narrow slit adjacent to the shield 4. The outlets are formed at the sides 3 by cutting away a portion of the leather. Additional inlets 9 are provided and all inlets are covered with gauze to exclude dust.
