Abstract

211,157. Forkardt, P. Feb. 10, 1923, [Convention date]. Chucks.-In self-centring chucks of the type in which radial jaws 13 are operated by tangentially sliding members 16 having inclined teeth 11 cooperating with the jaws and rack teeth 9 cooperating with a central worm-driven pinion 5, 6, the members may be retracted so that their inclined teeth are disengaged from those on the jaws, the latter in this position being engaged by resilient teeth 15 on the members so that the jaws may be moved radially by hand. The resilient teeth may take the form of pivoted triggers or sliding plungers, being in each case located in recesses in the members and being pressed into contact with the teeth on the jaws by springs. To ensure an equal movement of each jaw when these are being separately adjusted, the body is provided with marks such as concentric circles. In order to indicate when fhe members 16 are in their retracted positions, one of them is provided with a groove 26 which lifts a pin 25 and causes it to project beyond the body.
