Disinfecting-chambers; vaporizing by heat or combustion; vapours, delivering.-A disinfecting agent that has been employed, in conjunction with heat, for the treatment of clothing and the like in a closed chamber or stove is subsequently used in a cooler condition for the superficial disinfection of rooms, and the destruction of vermin. Sulphurous gases are preferably employed, and the gases may be cooled by means of air supplied to support the combustion of the sulphur. Apparatus for the execution of the process comprises a generator so constructed that either step in the process can be carried out independently. Hot sulphurous gases generated in the generator a enter the closed chamber or stove h by way of the pipe b<1> and, having circulated in the chamber, pass into the room to be treated by way of the pipes b<2>, c, g. Air for combustion of the sulphur is drawn in at e<2> and cools the gases in the pipe c before entering the generator through the pipe f. If the cold gases are not required for use they may be led from the pipe g into an absorbent solution or into the atmosphere; if cold gases only are required, the, valves b<3>, b<4> are shut and valve b<5> opened, the gases then passing direct from the generator to the cooler d. The generator and its connections, together with the chamber h, may be mounted on a truck for transport. To accelerate the heating of the chamber, the pipe b<1> may be continued to form a radiator inside the chamber, and the generator may be placed within the chamber so that its operation is controllable from without. In the latter case a vessel arranged to be fed from outside the chamber with an additional disinfecting agent such as formaldehyde may be placed on the generator.
