Abstract

A release sheet (10) for a cake tin or the like, is provided, within its periphery, with an area, smaller than the entire sheet, which is divided from the remainder of the sheet by a line or lines of perforation or weakening (12, 14) whereby said small area can be readily separated from the remainder of the sheet. <IMAGE>

Description

SPECIFICATION Release sheet for cake tin or the like This invention relates to a release sheet for covering the bottom of a cake tin or the like.
It is standard practice in the baking of cakes and the like which are cooked in tins of various sizes and configurations, into which the cake mixture or the like is poured in a flowable or liquid condition prior to placing in the oven, to cover the bottom of such tins with release sheets, e.g.
sheets of "greaseproof " or siliconised paper, the function of which is to prevent the mixture from sticking to the bottom of the tin.
In order that the release sheet will perform its desired function adequately, it is desirable that it should fit closely around the edges of the bottom of the tin, being neither too large nor too small. In practice, it is generally necessary for the cook to cut a piece of release paper of the appropriate size and shape from a larger sheet, and to do this with the necessary accuracy requires skill and time.
This is particularly so where the release sheet is required to have a circular shape, as is often the case.
It is an object of the present invention to provide an improved release sheet from which a piece of the appropriate size for a particular tin can readily be separated without substantial skill and without the use of tools such as scissors.
According to the invention there is provided a release sheet for a cake tin or the like which is provided, within its outer periphery, with an area, smaller than the entire sheet, which is divided from the remainder of the sheet by a line or lines of perforation or weakening whereby said smaller area can be readily separated from the remainder of the sheet.
An embodiment of the invention is described below with reference to the accompanying drawing which illustrates diagrammatically a release sheet embodying the invention.
Referring to the drawing, a release sheet is shown which can be readily adapted to circular tins of various diameters, for example standard 9", 8" or 7" tins.
The release sheet comprises a circular piece of "greaseproof " or siliconised release paper, the diameter of the circular sheet being, for example, 9".
Within the circular periphery of the sheet 10, and concentric with the periphery of the sheet, is a first line of weakening or perforation 1 2 which follows a circle concentric with the periphery of the piece 10 and having a diameter, for example, of 8". Similarly, within the line of perforation or weakening 12 is disposed a further circular line of weakening or perforation 14 concentric with the line 12 and the periphery of the piece 10 and having, for example, a diameter of 7". The perforations of each line 12, 14 may be relatively small and numerous, or may take the form of relatively long arcuate slots separated by relatively small gaps.In either case, the lines of perforation or weakening allow the material lying outside a selected line of perforation or weakening 12, 14 to be torn off from the remainder to afford a perfectly circular release sheet of the desired size. Thus, to provide a release sheet for a 7" diameter round tin, the sheet is torn around the line of perforations or weakening 14, to provide a release sheet for an 8" tin the sheet is torn along the line 12, whilst for a 9" tin the sheet 10 is used without tearing. If desired, the circular area within the innermost line of perforation 14 may bear a printed text, for example, a recipe. In this case, the printing may include wording indicating which side of the paper should face upwards when placed in the tin, and in such a case the printing of the sheet would normally be on the face of the sheet which was intended to face downwardly in the tin.The printed text might, aiternatively, or in addition, bear the manufacturers' name or other matter.
It will be understood, of course, that it would be possible for only a single circular line of weakening or perforation to be provided, or for three or more concentric circular lines of weakening or perforation to be provided, as desired, according to the range of sizes likely to be required.
It will be appreciated that a similar arrangement might be utilised for rectangular baking tins, and in this case, the lines of perforation or weakening may conveniently take the form of, for example, a first set of straight lines parallel with one edge of a rectangular sheet and a further set of straight lines parallel with an adjoining edge of the rectangular sheet. For rectangular tins of standard width but various lengths, the lines of weakening might simply be a single set of straight lines parallel with and adjoining one edge of the sheet.
Whereas the embodiment described with reference to the drawing has been described as affording selection of pieces to cover the bottom of a cake tin, it will be appreciated that the relevant pieces may be pieces intended to line the walls of a cake tin, or to extend both over the bottom and the walls of a cake tine or the like or of a cavity or recess formed in a cake tin, baking tray or the like, the pieces being shaped or profiled accordingly.

2. A release sheet according to claim 1 wherein there is provided, within the periphery of the sheet, a series of such areas of progressively smaller size, each said area lying entirely within the next larger area and being divided from the respective next larger area by a respective said line or lines of perforation or weakening.
