Abstract

Pre-cut liners for cooking utensils include circular liners, (1, 3) each used in conjunction with a rectangular strip (6). The circular liners have slits (2,4) extending radially inward from the periphery so that the edges may be folded up when used in a circular cake tin; the strip then fitting around the inner surface of the tin. The liners are sold in packs containing liners of the same or different sizes. <IMAGE>

Description

SPECIFICATION Liners for cooking utensils The present invention relates to liners for cooking utensils, such as cake tins or flan bases.
When making a cake it is common to line the cake tin with a material such as greaseproof paper to prevent the cake mixture sticking to the tin. Greaseproof paper is sold in packets containing a large number of rectangular sheets, but there is the problem that each sheet must then be cut to fit the tin.
Cooking utensils, such as cake tins and flan bases are usually of standard sizes, therefore the same job has to be done very often.
Therefore, the present invention proposes pre-cut liners for cooking utensils such as cake tins, flan bases, etc. made out of greaseproof paper or similar material. The precut liners would preferably be sold in a pack containing several different sizes, corresponding to the standard sizes of cake tins, etc., but could also be sold in packs each containing liners of one particular size, so that the user could select the pack corresponding to the tin used most.
Embodiments of the invention will now be described in detail, by way of example, with reference to the accompanying drawing, in which: Figure 1 shows a liner for use with a circular tin; Figure 2 shows a modification of the liner of Fig. 1; Figure 3 shows a side liner for use with the liner of Fig. 1 or Fig. 2; and Figure 4 shows a liner for a square tin.
Referring first to Fig. 1, a liner 1 for a circular cake tin is formed from greaseproof paper.
A plurality of slits 2 are made in its periphery, to enable its edges to be folded upwards around the sides of the tin. In practice, it is desirable for this liner to have a diameter of about one inch greater than the diameter of the cake tin, as this normally provides a sufficient amount of material at the sides. A further development is shown in Fig. 2 in which the liner 3 has slits 4 around its periphery, extending inwardly to a specificaliy delineated fold line 5 with a diameter corresponding to the diameter of the cooking utensil. The liner of Fig. 2 is particularly applicable to flan bases. The liners of Fig. 1 and Fig. 2 may be provided in a plurality of sizes, to fit different sizes of tins.
With the liner of Fig. 1 or Fig. 2 in place on the bottom of the tin, the liner 6 of Fig. 3 is positioned around the inner sides of the tin.
This liner 6 may be a standard size to fit all the normal range of tins and flan bases, as overlap at the ends does not matter.
For a square cake tin, the liner 7 of Fig. 4 may be used. This consists of a rectangular central section 8 with two side sections 9, and 10. The central section 8 has fold lines 11 corresponding to the size of tin to be used, but extends beyond those lines to form a liner for the sides of the tin. The side sectios 9 and 10 also have fold lines 12 and extend beyond those fold lines. However, the extensions of the side portions are not joined to the extensions of the central section 8, so that when the liner is shaped, the extensions of the side sections 9 and 10 may be fitted in front or behind the extensions of the central section 8, so that there is overlap at the corners to prevent leakage.
Since cake tins, etc., come in standard sizes, the liners shown in the drawings may be provided in a pack consisting of a plurality of liners of different shapes and sizes, or may be provided in packs containing one or two liners of a particular size. In all cases, the advantage of the present invention is that it eliminates the necessity to cut the liners to shape every time a liner is needed.
1. A pack having a plurality of pre-cut liners, each liner comprising a generally circular component having a plurality of radial slots extending inwardly from the periphery of the component, and a generally rectangular component having a length greater than or equal to the circumference of the circular component.
2. A pack according to claim 1, wherein each circular component has a preformed fold line extending in a circle joining the innermost ends of the radial slots.
3. A pack having a plurality of pre-cut liners, each liner comprising a generally rectangular central section and generally rectangular side sections each having part of one of their longitudinal sides connected to part of a corresponding one of the longitudinal sides of the central section.
4. A pack according to claim 3, wherein each liner has pre-formed fold lines extending along the connection of the central and side sections, and further pre-formed fold lines extending perpendicularly to the connections, and passing through the ends of those connections.
5. A pack containing a plurality of pre-cut liners for cooking utensils containing the liners including at least some which comprise a generally circular component having a plurality of radial slots extending inwardly from the periphery of the component, and a generally rectangular component having a length greater than or equal to the circumference of the circular component; and at least some which comprise a generally rectangular central section and generally rectangular side sections each having part of one of their longitudinal sides connected to part of
