Description
SPECIFICATION
Improvements in or relating to suction cleaners
This invention relates to suction cleaners.
A suction cleaner is known which includes a motor casing, a guiding handle which is mounted thereon and a dust filter bag basket or holder which is releasably mounted or fitted on the motor casing, the filter bag holder containing a filter bag which is arranged downstream of a fan of the cleaner. One end of the filter bag holder is hooked onto the motor casing inside an encircling collar and behind projections and the other end is forced downwardly until a latching knob engages into an opening of the collar.
To release the filter bag holder, pressure is applied to the latching knob and the holder can then be removed in an upward direction. However, this construction presents certain disadvantages. For example, it is necessary due to the encircling collar on the motor casing always to carry out a certain fitting procedure in order that the filter bag holder is guided exactly into its locking position. Furthermore, on account of the encircling collar, there are also formed spaces which can be filled with dirt.
According to the present invention, there is provided a suction cleaner which includes a casing receiving a motor, a guiding handle mounted on the motor casing and a dustfilter bag holder which is releasably mounted on the motor casing by means of a hinge arrangement, said holder being intended to contain a dust filter bag which, when the holder is mounted in a closed position on said motor casing, is downstream of a fan of the cleaner.
For a better understanding of the invention and to show how the same may be carried into effect, reference will now be made, by way of example, to the accompanying drawings, in which:
Figure 1 is a diagrammatic side view of a suction cleaner showing a filter bag holder fitted into position,
Figure 2 is a diagrammatic side view of the suction cleaner shown in Figure 1 with the filter bag holder hinged downwardly,
Figure 3 is a diagrammatic view, partly in section, of a hinge part hinging the filter bag holder to a motor casing of the cleaner, and
Figure 4 is a view similar to Figure 3 but taken on a different section line.
The drawings show a suction cleaner 12 which inclues a motor casing 2, a guiding handle 13 and a filter basket or holder 1 to receive a dust filter bag.
The handle 13 and filter bag holder 1 are arranged on the motor casing 2, the filter bag being downstream of a fan in the motor casing 2.
When it is necessary for a full filter bag to be extracted from the filter bag holder 1, then the
holder 1 has to be released from the motor casing 2.
As illustrated in Figure 2, this is effected by a
rearwood pivotal movement of the holder 1 and for this purpose a hinge 3 is arranged between the top
of the motor casing 2 and the base of the holder 1.
As shown in Figures 3 and 4, the hinge 3 is a
double-jointed hinge which is mounted for turning
movement on a pivot 4 on the motor casing 2, is releasably snapped on and can here be completely separated by tensile force from the motor casing 2.
So that the filter bag holder 1 cannot be pulled off in its closed condition (Figure 1), projections 10 are provided in the motor casing 2 to either side of the hinge 3 (only one projection 10 being visible) and slots 9 (only one slot 9 being visible) engage over the respective projections 10 when closing the holder 1 on the casing 2 so that the hinge 3 is then secured against being pulled off the pivot 4.
Figure 4 shows the internal structure of the hinge 3. An intermediate part 6 of the hinge has clips 11 on the side of the hinge that faces the pivot 4 and, as a result, the intermediate part 6 can be rotated on the pivot 4 and released from it by being pulled off. The intermediate part 6 is itself mounted on a pivot 5 of the holder 1. At this point, however, the intermediate part is so supported with respect to the pivot 5 that a turning movement on the pivot 5 is only possible against the spring force of a spring element 7.It will thus be appreciated that when the filter bag holder 1 and motor casing 2 are separated, the intermediate part 6 is always first of all rotated on the pivot 4 through 90 and then the filter bag holder 1 can be rotated on the pivot 5 through another 90 . Since the point of pivoting is first of all on the pivot 4, it is possible for the filter bag holder 1 to be freed from the motor casing 2 without rubbing on any outside edge. Thus, with the present construction, the fitting and removal procedure is simplified, the holder merely being hinged downwardly to remove it or snapped on by a hinging movement.
1. A suction cleaner, which includes a casing receiving a motor, a guiding handle mounted on the motor casing and a dust filter bag holderwhich is releasably mounted on the motor casing by means of a hinge arrangement, said holder being intended to contain a dust filter bag which, when the holder is mounted in a closed position on said motor casing, is downstream of a fan of the cleaner.
2. A suction cleaner as claimed in claim 1, wherein said hinge arrangement is formed as a double-jointed hinge.
3. A suction cleaner as claimed in claim 2, wherein said hinge includes a pivot fitted on said motor casing and a pivot fitted on said holder, there being an intermediate hinge part interconnecting these two pivots and being arranged for pivotable movement thereabout.
4. A suction cleaner as claimed in claim 3, wherein said intermediate hinge part is supported with respect to the pivot on said holder by means of a spring element so that said holder, when it is being opened from said motor casing, is initially caused to
pivot about the pivot on said motor casing and is thereafter caused to pivot with respect to said
intermediate hinge part.
5. A suction cleaner as claimed in claim 3 or 4,
wherein said intermediate hinge part and said motor
casing have complementary slots and projections to
hold the holder in position when it is closed on said
motor casing.
6. A suction cleaner as claimed in claim 3, 4 or 5,
wherein said intermediate hinge part is releasably
