Abstract

Circulating or passing fluids through materials. -Relates to the dyeing of cops by the passage of dye-liquor in the longitudinal direction through a series of layers, each composed of a number of rows arranged as shown in Figs. 1 and 4, and compressed. To prevent longitudinal displacement of the cops and to secure even distribution of the liquor, packing-pieces b shaped as shown in Fig. 5 to correspond with the spaces at the ends of the rows and extending the whole length of the rows, are arranged along the sides of the vat. The packing-pieces are fitted in grooves e in the ends of the vat, and are of a thickness equal to about half the initial diameter of the cops c; when the mass is compressed, the pieces b rest one on the other. Intermediate separating-pieces b<1>, Fig. 4, shaped as shown in Fig. 6, may also be employed.
