Abstract

The carriage has a frame (10), supported on wheels (11), and two columns (12), the upper parts of which continue into handles (13). The columns (12) height-adjustably support a slidable member (14) which has a horizontally forwardly projecting shelf (17), on which a bucket or other container can be supported. The member (14) has two vertical U-section members (15) embracing the respective columns (12) and supporting a bar having projecting portions, the bar being turnably fastened to the member (14) and the projecting portions co-operating with corresponding recesses in the columns. <IMAGE>

Description

required position by resetting the handle 21.
A press unit for pressing water from a swab can be fastened to the upper cross bar 16, so that the water pressed out runs down into a bucket (as shown) placed on the grid shelf 17. Other cleaning implements can be kept in the detachable basket shown.
1. A swab press carriage comprising a frame mounted on wheels and having two columns which support a sledge which has horizontally projecting shelf means by which a bucket or other container can be supported, the shelf being associated with locking means by which it can be locked at a selected height on the columns, wherein the sledge comprises two U-section members each embracing a respective column and supporting a bar having a projecting portion, each bar being turnably mounted by the sledge, and the projecting portions co-operating with corresponding recesses in the columns.
2. A carriage according to claim 1, wherein the U-section members extend vertically and are connected by cross bars to which a pressing unit can be applied.
3. A carriage according to claim 1 or claim 2, wherein the two U-section members each fastening lugs with holes through which the bar extends, at least one end part of the bar being formed as a handle.
4. A swab press carriage constructed and arranged substantially as herein described and shown in the drawings.
SPECIFICATION Swab press carriage This invention relates to a swab press carriage comprising a frame supported on wheels and having two columns, the upper parts of which continue into handles for pushing the carriage on a floor, the columns supporting a sledge which has a projecting shelf, on which a bucket or other container can rest, and has locking means by which it can be locked in several positions on the columns.
Such carriages are known, having a swab press unit and bucket placed near the floor. The use of such a press unit involves an uncomfortable working positionforthe user as well as heavy lifting of the bucket from floor level to a higher level for emptying. This can cause injury for instance to the back of a person using the carriage.
An object of the invention is to provide a swab press carriage in which such operations are moved to a level which is more suited to the height of the user. Moreover, emptying of the bucket is simpified as it need not be removed from the carriage, but can be tipped directly into a sink or a toilet.
According to this invention a swab press carriage comprises a frame mounted on wheels and having two columns which support a sledge which has horizontally projecting shelf means by which a bucket or other container can be supported, the shelf being associated with locking means by which it can be locked at a selected height on the columns, wherein the sledge comprises two U-section members each embracing a respective column and supporting a bar having a projecting portion, each bar being turnably mounted by the sledge, and the projecting portions co-operating with corresponding recesses in the columns.
An embodiment of the invention will now be described by way of example, with reference to the drawings, in which: Figure 1 is a side elevation; Figure 2 is a front elevation; and Figures 3 and 4 are respectively an enlarged side elevation and an enlarged section of a locking device.
Referring to the drawings, a carriage comprises a frame 10 on which four wheels 11 are pivotally mounted. The frame 10 supports two parallel vertical columns 12 each at its upper part extending into a horizontal handle 13. Along the columns a sledge 14 is slidable. The sledge comprises two U-section members 15, each embracing one column 12. The members 15 are connected to each other by cross bars 16 and each has at its lower end a grid shelf 17, extending horizontally. Each member 15 has a pair of lugs 18, which are in alignment with each other and have holes 19 through which a bar 20 passes.
The bar 20 has at one end a handle 21 and between each pair of lugs has an enlarged portion 22, which can be caused to engage in a corresponding recess 23 in a respective column 12. By turning the bar 20 by the handle 21 the portion 22 leaves the recess 23, whereby the sledge 14 can be raised or lowered with respect to the frame 10 and then be locked in a
