Abstract
210,544. Hutchins, T. D. Nov. 7, 1922. Money - delivering apparatus.-Improvements in change-giving machines of the type described in Specification 182,834 in which a perforated disc is first rotated in one direction to an extent corresponding to the amount tendered and then reversed to an extent corresponding to the amount to be deducted, spring- pressed pins actuating the change-giving slides, comprise a nut 112 adapted to receive a graduated tape 115 from a spring box 123 and restrained against rotary movement and carried on a threaded spindle 110 meshing through a pinion 1<a> with the main disc 1. The actuation of a purchase lever 32 raises stop devices 32<a> into the path of the nut 112, the swell 32<c> engaging the upper arm of a rocking-member 116, the lower arm of which engages the tail of a pawl 119 lifting it out of engagement with the ratchet wheel 121, the step 32d on the stop device being held by the edge of the upper arm of the rocking-member restrained in an upward direction by a pin 60<a> on a rod 60 held by a spring 122. The main disc is then free to reverse until the nut 112 meets the particular stop 32<a> thrown in its path. The points 32<b> of the stop devices indicate the amount of the sale on the tape 115. In another form of stop device a toothed strip is used in place of the ratchet wheel 121. Means for deducting a half-penny comprise a half-penny lever 32<a1> connected by a rod 124 with a cranked rod 125, the other cranked end of which engages the pin 126 on the bearing of the lever 68. Fig. 1. The bearing 126 is moved by the operation of the lever 32<a1>, and the connecting-rod 124<a> lifts the lever 47, freeing the half-penny slide, a pawl 124<b> holding the mechanism in this position until the opening of the change drawer. Means to prevent overthrow of the main disc comprises a series of studs on the main disc adapted to be engaged by a detent normally spring-pressed into the path of the studs, the tail end of the pawl being engaged by a cam on the coin-receiving disc which lifts the detent from engagement with the studs until the pinions have passed out of mesh. If a ú 1 or 10/- note is tendered, the disc 1 is turned through a complete revolution, the tape in each case displaying 10/-, but in the case of a ú1 disc being inserted the 10/- change-slide is freed by a tappet on the shaft 2 operated by a pin on the disc 7, the tappet being rocked to lift the lever 47, the change-slide remaining free until a further amount is recorded on the tape.
